  1. My opinion if you can't tell them the truth is to tell a version of the truth. Lol. Just tell them that your stomach has been bugging you...lol...not that far off, right? I am running in to that this week - I forgot that I was going to be on liquids and told a friend I would do brunch with her tomorrow. Luckily, she knows about the surgery and said she would just come over to my place so we could chat. I was supposed to have a luncheon with co-workers on Weds at one of my favorite restaurants - I just told my boss I wasn't going to go (it wasn't a mandatory thing...) I know that I wouldn't cheat, but why torture myself if I don't have to? BTW, you will be just fine for three days! The first day might be the toughest, but if you just tell yourself that you have to do it, and there's an end in sight, then you'll be fine. I could easily do one more day of this. 5 more is going to be a bit of a challenge, but I'll make it. :frown1: There's an end in sight.
  2. I get it...I'm actually quite excited about missing work for a few weeks. It will be nice to relax! Even if it is while recovering... I am lucky in that my family is quite supportive. I've even told a few people at work and most of my friends, so I feel very supported. Rely on us if you don't have people you can talk to in person! I feel like people don't always get it right away, but I've been trying to explain to people how I came to this decision, and most all of them are on board now...As far as my goals go, if I lose the 90 that I listed, I'll be a tiny version of myself. Lol. I would be completely thrilled losing 60 or so...so we're kind of on the same page, although I have a little farther to go than you. :frown1: What's your biggest fear/concern with all of this?
  3. so... a question for you - can you visualize yourself skinny? it kind of throws me off...i've been chubby for so long that i have a hard time imagining it...and it scares me alot. what if i don't like myself skinny? what if i can't get used to it? kind of a silly thought, i know, but i'm comfortable where i'm at right now, although not healthy....ok, i'm rambling. i'd love to hear more from you! good luck with the rest of your liquid days and only a few more til surgery!! yeah!!

  4. hey lovinlife! i'm definitely ready! i have an insurance plan that requires a 6 mo supervised time before approving surgery, so i'm about a year in to this whole process...let's get it over with already, i say! :) jk! but, i'm definitely ready to start living my new life. i've started already by working out on a regular basis, tried to cut out diet pepsi and fried foods, etc. and lost a few pounds on my own, but now on the liquids i'm sure i'll lose a few more this week. how about you? been successful with the liquids? you know, i haven't been strong enough to go out to dinner with friends - i'm just chilling at home this weekend and have scheduled myself a pretty busy week so that i'm not tempted or bored!

  5. I live in Green Bay, WI and am having the surgery done here with Dr. Kemmerling at Aurora Hospital. I've never had a major procedure done before (just wisdom teeth out when I was in high school) and so I'm a little nervous about that, but know that this is the right choice for me. Huge history of diabetes, heart problems in the family, and just need to feel like myself again! What are your goals for the surgery? How much do you want to lose?

    Pre Op Liquid Diet

hi everyone, I'm kind of in the same situation - I'm on day two of seven for my liquid pre-op diet. Going a little crazy emotionally, and my stomach is rumbling, but it gets better if I make sure to have a Protein shake every 3 hours or so...otherwise I get quite crabby. I have to make it until Friday!! Wish me luck!
  7. Hi momoftwo! :frown1: I just started liquids yesterday - I have to go until Friday when I have my surgery! It takes a lot of mental strength, but I guess for me, not doing it isn't an answer. I am having a kind of emotional night because I would normally be hanging out with friends or at home and having great food, and now tonight I can't. It's making me feel emotions that I can normally ignore with food. But, that being said, I still feel strong and encouraged - after all, it's only a few more days, right? I guess when I get a craving for real food, I just shift my brain back to the surgery and the fact that I have to make the right choices to get healthy again. I woke up this morning and celebrated the fact that I made it through the first day with no cheating. I'll do the same tomorrow...focusing on the positive and using self-encouragement to build myself up. I don't know if this helps or not, but maybe I'm typing this to help myself feel better too. Lol. Good luck, and if you want to be sleeve sisters, let me know! I love having this community of support - I would feel lost without everyone here! Good luck!!! Andrea
  8. This is my first time with a major surgery! I had my wisdom teeth out, but for some reason, that one didn't make me nervous at all! I don't have any kids, and so I really haven't experienced a major medical change ever. So....I'm nervous. I am really excited because I haven't been struggling with the idea of giving up my old life too much. Does that make sense? I'm really ready to move on to a healthy me, even if that means lots of hard work. I've started an exercise program, and it kicks my butt, but I love doing it. Do you ever freak out that maybe this isn't going to work? That in a few years you'll be back where you are now? I really feel different this time, but I have self-doubt sometimes. I couldn't handle having people know that I had surgery and even that didn't work! Thoughts? Well, I will keep you posted on how the liquid diet this week goes...it's protein shakes all week for me! I'm sure I'll get quite sick of them, but I'm excited to start losing this weight!

  9. Thanks for the add! :) My surgery is Aug 20th, so coming up pretty quickly! I start liquids on Friday and am a little nervous, but more excited to finally be getting to where I want to be in this whole process! Are you nervous or more excited?

  10. Hey LovinLife! I'm looking for friends on this site who are having surgery right around the same time as me...mine is set up for Aug 20...want to be friends? :) I think it would be cool to have a network of people around to go to with questions, etc. so we can share experiences. Thanks!

  11. Hey sleeve4me! I was messing around on the site today and saw that our surgery dates are only one week apart - want to be friends? I'm looking to form a group of support people online for when I'm having questions/doubts/excitement about this whole process. If you're interested, let me know!

    Spicy foods??

Hi all, I'm considering VSG and am concerned because I really love spicy foods....can I eat spicy stuff post-surgery do you think, or will it bug my new stomach? Anyone have experiences with this? I would just have to think twice if I can't have a spicy curry again...lol. But seriously, I would love to hear any stories that you might have. Thanks! Andrea

    Spicy foods??

Oops! Sorry! Don't want to tempt you! Lol...I'm a newbie here...dont' want to get in trouble already! jk!

    Spicy foods??

Whew...I'm glad that you say that because Mexican, Thai and Indian foods are my favorite, and I really wasn't ready to completely cut them out of my life. That being said, I also don't need to eat an entire plate like I have been either...thanks for the feedback!

    Cajun confused about carbs

Can I pose another question? My surgeon says that he wants us to use biofeedback (listening to our bodies) to indicate how much we should eating, and that targeting certain carb/calorie levels in the day makes us obsess about food and our weight, something that got us here in the first place. Has anyone else heard this from their surgeons? It seems like everyone has these really specific plans set up for the number of carbs and protein, and I just don't know if my surgeon is going to have me do the same thing...I'm nervous that I wouldn't stick to a strict plan...any suggestions??

I believe this is the right thing to do.

Thanks for all of your feedback, guys....it's really helping me make a life-changing decision. For those of you who have had surgery, would you characterize your life overall as pretty easy to live after surgery? Does it really take up a lot of your time and energy? (Both mental and physical?) Or are you just able to live a normal life, just a healthier version? Any thoughts?

I believe this is the right thing to do.

So I am really new to this whole procedure as well, and just wanted to put my question out there, too. I hope it's not too off topic - did any of you get that feeling that if you just tried one more time to be a "healthy eater" and a "regular work-outer" that you could do this on your own? The age-old "just eat less and work out more" mentality that we always hear about? That's my biggest sticking point right now...I don't know if I should have surgery or just work harder on my own. I feel like surgery is the right option, but I'm really scared of having that option fail for me too! Any thoughts??
