Got Scheduled For My 1St Surgeon Appt.

My first surgeon appointment was more of a chance for me to prove to the surgeon that I was a good candidate for WLS. They asked me lots of questions about past weight lost attempts, took measurements, health history of me and my family, even talked about support and changes this would have on my kids and husband. I had to meet their critera before he would procced. Hope that helps...it wasnt stressful because I just talked about myself.

    Bougie Size

I am not sure about the bougie size...my surgeon didnt use one he used something else...but I wonder did your friend follow the meal plans given to her? Did she follow all the directions she was given? It is possible to gain weight because it is possible to "cheat the sleeve". Sorry she had this out come but you should use her mistakes to make sure you dont make them. I would ask her as many questions as she would let me about her losing stages and maintence and when she began to gain... Blessings to you,

What Can I Expect About Scarinf?

I am 16 months out and have 4 mosiqito bite size pink spots and the top scar is so faint you can not see it, just feel it. It all depends on your skin type but I never used special cream or oils. I just occasionally rubbed lotion on my stomach. I was allowed to drive as soon as I was no longer taking prescription pain meds...which for me was day 4.

    On The Fence

I just hit 16 months post op. I cant say enough about how this surgery was a godsent and I have completly changed the way I live, cook, shop, eat, sleep, sit, walk, run, stand, get up in the morning, go to bed at night, make friends, ok...you get the point. It has changed almost everything about me...BUT ALL FOR GOOD! I am completly happy with all that has happened to me in the last 16 months because of this surgery. Most of all, I am sure that I have avoided a short life battling with heart disease, diabetes, PCOS, bad knees, bad feet, bad hips, and obesity. I would also encourage you to continue to read as many posts as you can here. Read success stories. Read complications. Read rants. Read failures. Then make a list of reasons why you shouldnt and why you should have the surgery. My doctor had us write out all the diets we have been on and the success of them. When I looked over it I knew that diets wouldnt work and I need medical intervention. Good luck in your journey to good health!
  11. This list was a great idea. You can check them off as you go and you will be so proud when you have conccured all of them!

How Did You Come To Your Decision?

In 2006, after 3 years of infertility I lost a baby. When I went to an OB he told me that the best treatment for my infertility was weight loss. I had heard this before but tried everything. My PCOS was getting worse and I feared I would never have another child. He listened and believed my attempts (which was a first) he prescribed a diet drug. It worked. I lost 30 pounds in 6 months and landed in the hospital with colitis. When the gastroenterologist told me I would never be able to go on another diet drug, I asked him what do I do about weight loss he said that I should have weight loss surgery. I wasn’t ready to hear it then. I had two children one in 2007 and one in 2009…then I was ready! I was at my all time heaviest at 226.5 (although I think I might have been a little higher just refused to weigh). My neighbor had just had rny. I thought that is the route I would go but after God closed the door to the first and second surgeon I saw my surgeon who recommend the sleeve. I researched and researched and decided that this was the surgery for me. No looking back NOT once…

    Sleeve Revision Is Tomorrow

  23. Yes it grows back...atleast that has been my experience. I began to loose my hair at 3 months and lost until 8 months and it is back to normal now...15 months out. I didnt use a special shampoo, I just took a supplement from gnc called b-beautiful. I noticed that panteen made my hair fall out worse...dont know why but it was bad. Over all I would say I lost more than 1/3 my hair.
  24. Dec 6, 2010 Well, I am glad you posted this Sophia because I was starting to think so many of those who I joined this journey with are gone living their life no doubt but too busy to stop in and say hey. I think I am finally at a good spot. I went from 226.5 at my highest and 110 at my lowest (after a stomach flu). I have settled at 120 give or take a few. My personal goal was 135 but that seems to high now that I have been here for months. I still struggle with my scale and freaking OUT when it goes up, but then releived when it goes back down. I "feel" more hungry these days and crave sweets (but dont eat them). I try to eat a Jello salad I have come up with to help and sf fudge pops to help with the craving. One of the main reasons I choose this surgery was so that I could eat anything after I got to goal. You know what I mean, it's on so many posts here. Eat anything, just smaller portions. Something happened to me. During my losing stage I decided I just want to eat what I need and not eat because it sounds good or will taste good. And I think I am still frightened that I will fall into the slippery slope and end up eating junk all the time or worse gain weight back! I eat a lot of crackers and cheese or pb but I do not eat sweets or fried foods or even anything that has more than 7 grams of sugar (not because it makes me sick, but that was my goal while losing) I know I have some issues to work on but I am so happy where I am. Went from a size 20 to a 4 and sometimes a 2! Size 2XL top- small. Went from a shy, anxious, cautious stay at home (in my home) mom growing old way before my 40s to a more confident, very active, positive, president of our Christian Women's group, loving being a mommy...younger women still in her mid 30's Who can not only keep up with my Marine~ but occasionally keep him running after me! Blessings to all you 2010s!!1 Dont disapear, I still need you guys:)
  25. Someone just posted a video the other day about how weight loss surgery is becoming a very good treatment for type 2 diabetes. You could quote the news. I think I would love to read your report when you are done:) Good luck to you.
