Day Dreamer got a reaction from Lainybee1987 in How to eat at McDonald's after the sleeve....
I am not eating regular food yet BUT we have been out to eat a few times since my surgery.
Chik FilA - my fav!! I order the chicken Soup - yes even the dead heat of summer!! I eat around the noodles or pluck them out. I eat the broth and the carrots (chuck the celery). It is sooooo good! And I get unsweet tea (add splenda).
Burger King - I haven't anything from here but I noticed that they had a veggie burger. That may be an option (no bun).
McDonalds - Umm I am NOT going to do fried foods.. personal choice - and I haven't eaten here since surgery BUT I like the grilled wraps and think tossing the tortilla would be smart. And just say no to the dressing they put on it!
My old friend - WENDY'S - let me tell you, this place is my saving grace post op. I have had so many baked potatoes!! Oh yum! When I went to mushy foods, this was my go-to. PLUS my family could eat their high calorie foods, and I had my tater. Yummmm!
It doesn't matter where we go, I find something that works with my new tiny tummy. And it is paying off!

It took me a week to roll on my side but I used pillows to help. (I am a side or tummy sleeper.) I slept in my bed just fine, but sleeping on my back sucked. LOL
Then again, I didnt have my JP drain or OnQ still in when I went home.

Statistics are a funny thing - they can be manipulated. See most Dr's report low to no complication rates. Here is the kicker - that includes numbers for people that have complications DURING surgery. The rates for people that die post op are not included in the surgeons numbers. There are a few documentaries on Netflix about the medical system using statistics in their favor.
I 110% agree that everyone needs to weigh the options (obesity vs surgery). And we all have to remember, no matter how simple the surgery, there are risks associated. I think I cried on and off for a week pre op wondering if I was doing the right thing. You need to do a lot of soul searching and be prepared for anything.

Not to sound gross, but ACV can be used in the treatment of hemorroids. You can ingest 1 tbs daily as well as use it topically. Note: dilute ACV when using topical as it will cause burning. Wipe off excess with wet cloth or baby wipe. Use after every movement to reduce hemorroid size and pain.
I googled it and thought, Hmmm will this really work. It did for me, and I have used every treatment out there.
I am wondering though, is ACV safe to swallow post sleeve?? It works for acid reflux, but I am very nervous about what can go in after the sleeve due to sensitive nature of the stomach.
Thanks

I am 3 months out and to be honest, shakes get boring. I love fall time because it means Thanksgiving foods! Or pumpkin pie... ohhh purrr! If you crave that comforting taste / smell of pumpkin pie during fall, why not try a pumpkin Protein Shake. Yumm-O!
1/3 cup canned pumpkin puree
1/3 cup milk
1 dash of vanilla
2 packets Splenda
Cinnamon (to taste)
Nutmeg (to taste)
1 scoop vanilla Protein powder

My friend used coffee creamer to make her shake extra thick - not good for those of us watching our carbs. Super tasty shake and makes me LOVE fall time

Lets just act like adults for a moment... LMAO ok ok.. my bad. You know, the disagreements dont bother me either - it is the Sleeve Know-it-alls that bug the crap out of me. They comment on your post about YOU CANT DO THAT... or YOU SHOULD NEVER... The thing is, you are not a DR and even most of the Drs are still learning about VSG and life there after. We have to learn and grow together. Maybe sharing your experience would be better than bashing them for drinking coffee etc.
We can all learn from each other. Disagreements are ok... but sometimes you have to agree to disagree ... back to the fighting HAHAH

Funny to see this thread alive and well... sadly, it is still happening in my daily life. I am now 3 1/2 months out and can really pack in some slider foods. At frist I was so happy to be able to eat more than 2 bites... that was, till I realized was eating multiple serving sizes at a time. Things like crackers and dip - oh lord - I can eat a whole box of flatbread crackers with some french onion dip like no ones business. It is sad... crazy.. mostly sad, but even disappointing.
I know the rule, eat Protein first but come on... I was never a stickler for the rules before, you think one surgery is going to change my mindset overnight? (Over 3 months worth of nights? LOL) Well I try... I do. During the day I do pretty good. In fact, I don't eat much at all; a few bites here and there. But come 8pm or so and I am starving. Right for the salty comfort foods... and they slide. Darn... who knew the Sleeve had sliders... Oh wait- I knew hahah I read it before I even had the surgery. BOOO ON ME! I have fallen into this comforting pit of eating junky slider food but enjoying it because it makes me feel like I am eating a normal amount of food again. I know what I have to do... I just need to do it. MAN UP.. err WOMAN UP! LOL Yeah, easier said than done.
I will keep you posted

SMH... It's thousands of people hoping to have the chance we have received. I'm going to keep my personal feelings about people who waste opportunities the same as how I feel about smokers to myself.

Well I can only help so here it goes!! Try upping your Water intake to 64 ounces. The akins bars you have for Snacks are loaded with carbs..try to cut them out all together. If you like yogurt buy some carbmasters from kroger and replace the snack bars with yogurt one yogurt has only 4 grams of carbs and you are probably getting around 25 carbs for the Atkins bars. You have to mix the food up try just eating chicken breast for a week with greenbeans for a week. I think you are getting too many carbs. I realize how much your struggling and I know it really does suck. You have to always remember why you did this and try to stay positive no matter what. I have been out of sugery for 9 months and I can tell you that I struggle every once in a while. Sometimes its ok to have bad day ( we just have to live on the hope the next day will be brighter and it usually is). Also the less you weigh the longer it takes. When was your sugery??

I was informed from the doctors office themselves that they have not had any leaks. If you do not know the information first hand it would be appreciated if you did not gossip from the information you may have heard from others.

Hey Day Dreamer!
I also had my surgery on June 6th. I'm so sorry you're having some issues. I was having a lot of trouble getting Water down too and still don't really like it, odd as that sounds. I bought some Vitamin Waters and Sobe Lifewaters and drink them at room temp. That seems to help me.
Also, not sure if you've ever had a c-section, but try to use a pillow against your tummy every time you stand or attempt to roll out of bed. The pressure helps a lot with the soreness in your tummy.
Hope all gets better, and keep posting! Take care,
Darlene

What a ride you have been on! I am getting sleeved next week and was watching for you to come back. I am glad you are able to drink a small bit easier today. Tomorrow should be even better.
The pain makes it hard, but to avoid pneumonia and blood clots, be SURE you are deep breathing every hour - fill those lungs UP. Even if it hurts. And get up and walk every one to two hours and rotate your ankles, do knee bends when sitting/laying down now and then. Take good care of yourself. The more you do of these things, the faster you will feel better. The body tends to rise to what is expected of it in healthy people.
Hang in there. You have been in our thoughts!

I'm so sorry you are having such a rough experience!!! I had surgery the same day. I'm also having a bit of a rough time. I had a hernia repaired and I think that must be what is causing the pain in the esophagus. I was giving similar meds you were given. But I can tell you that I see positive change day to day. The first couple of days I thought I was crazy to do this. Losing weight was the last thing on my mind. I just felt like I needed to recouperate my health. My husband kept reminding me that it had only been a couple of days from MAJOR surgery. I realized that to me, because I felt so lousy, a day or two felt like an eternity. When I got things in perspective I could see that a couple of weeks of healing is very much in order and that indeed the body repairs and repairs and works its magic. So hang in there. I bet you'll be feeling better and better by the hour and definitely by the day. Most likely next week at this time you will be a whole lot stronger. Someone told me that it all passes. Even if you end up needing fluids, you get them and your done. Your body will take over. I hope this is helpfull to you. Sending lots of positive thoughts and energy your way for a speedy recovery. Be well!!!!!

I would do the couch, but use big pillows and blankets to prop yourself more upright so it doesn't hurt so much to get up. Also, get someone to tie a rope over the end of the couch so you can use that instead of your stomach muscles to help sit up to get up.
I had to do warm liquids too. Cold hurt too much. I hope you are getting better quickly. Don't be afraid to ask for help from those around you.

Sorry to hear you are having such a bad time!
I needed extra stiches so I felt the same everything in there felt so tight, my Dr explained that when you lay down the stomach swells so you have to be up and walking. I walked every hour for the first week and I can tell you it really helped. Also thin liquids hurt but things like sf jelly did not so give that a try too.
Wishing you a speedy recovery you will love your sleeve soon I promis. I'm now day 28 and have lost 26 lb! So keep that faith and look after you! X x
