Afraid to eat

I'm afraid I can't help you in department yet. Since you are ahead of me. You might have a little more luck finding advise on some of the main boards. Besides, I'm sure several people on the boards are looking forward to hearing from you again. I see you are down 29 lbs <high five>
2. I have had some funerals (Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen tonight). I start my 2 week diet tomorrow. I'm on a 3 shakes and one meal a day plan too. I'm getting pretty excited about getting this going, especially since I have been able to lose almost 20 lbs before the pre-op diet. :whoo: :woot:
3. Mine is July 11th. And I can't wait. I'm so excited. I start preop diet on Monday. I guess part of the reason I'm so excited is that I have already lost almost 20 lbs. Just on my pre preop diet. . Let's get this liquid thing going so I can see how much I can lose before surgery.
4. I bought a new scale yesterday...man what a difference. I am now down 18 lbs. I start my two week pre-op diet Monday.

WHAT have I done?

I have heard through going to support group meeting that it is very normal to "morn" food. being that you are only 5 days post-op, I think what you are feeling is normal and something that I don't look forward to going through. I also think that the feeling you get by taking food to work and the like will be replaced by the feeling you will get from the positive attention your weight loss will bring. I lost 70 lbs doing weight watchers and when I was going through that, I had many people at work that I didn't really have any relationship with give me very nice comments and ask me about how I was losing the weight. I can only assume it will be similar after my surgery. Another person on here described her feelings after surgery as "buyers remorse" but I think that too will pass. good luck to you and remember, just because can't eat everything you used to, doesn't mean you can't cook it.
6. I think I need a new scale...I checked my weight before I went to bed last night and after I got out of the shower this morning and it says I gained 5.6 lbs overnight. Can that be possible?

7. I have been very upfront with people on my plans to have surgery. In fact, in some cases, I have come out and told them unsolicited. It seems like most people are supportive and in many cases know someone who has had the lapband (which has confirmed my decision to get the sleeve many times over). My sister was probably the most reluctant person I have told. She has always been the largest person of all my brothers and sisters (there are eight of us). I am not too far behind her. She and her husband lost over 100 lbs a couple of years ago using Weight Watchers. Seeing their success, my wife and I joined WW and had really good results. I lost about 70 lbs in about 6 months. Two years later I have gained every bit of that weight back and my sister has regained a good portion of her weight. Yet she is still the one to caution me on WLS. smh :nonod:
8. My registration is July 1st and expect I will have to pay something. My wife is having her EGD the day after my surgery and will likely have to pay the $122 dollars like I did.
9. Welcome Pete. turns out you are just down the street from me. I'm in the 40229. I am having surgery on July 11th with Dr Oldham. Have you gone to any of the support group meetings on the third thursday of each month. maybe I'll see you there.

10. Congrats...you rock..:waytogo:

It's like the people sleeved in June are the Jewels of June...we're the July Firecrackers I'm surrounded by beautiful women all the time with my wife and two daughters. (my wife is on these boards...I have to be careful )

Un-break my heart

I think I will comment from two different perspectives...if I may.

First from the man perspective. Maybe he is scared...maybe he's worried that once you lose the weight, you won't want to be with him any more. or you start getting more attention from other guys and start looking at the greener pasture...so to speak. I would think that he would do well with some reassurance from you that even after you lose weight, even after you start getting the added attention from others, that you still love him and that will not change.

Ok perspective 2. I'll call this the Man perspective #2 or the child perspective (since there is not a whole lot of difference sometimes). Have you ever had a child act out because they are wanting attention? and any attention, even bad attention is better than no attention in their eyes. Maybe, in his eyes, you have been spending so much time and attention leading up to this surgery that he is feeling left out. Maybe a night out, just the two of you, once a week would help him appreciate the time you spend together more.

Anyway, just a couple of thoughts from a guy who has no idea what you or your husband are going through. Take them for what they are worth. Just remember, they were free.

5 Days Post Op Issues

Yeah, every encounter I've had with Dr. O has been good. From the beginning after the siminar he stayed as long as he was needed to answer questions. We went to the support group meeting last month and he was there and was the last to leave. He just seems to go out of his way to make you feel comfortable. I am having my surgery at Baptist East. I can hardly wait. I was telling my wife about the OnQ pump that they told me about at my appointment and how I may be sent home with it. She did say that she wouldn't think I'd need that since I have such a high pain tollerance. I guess it's true, I had back surgery a couple of years ago and was off the pain meds after a week. Anywho, I hope you are steadily making progress. Try not to rush back to work.

Newly Sleeved

you should come to the support group at Baptist East on the 16th. last month they gave away samples of a Vitamin powder that you mix with your Water. that may be a good option for you.

5 Days Post Op Issues

Wow...sorry you are having a hard time. Especially since I am seeing the same doctor.. I was talking to Dr O on Thursday and he mentioned that he had just done a sleeve on someone that was going to be staying another day or so...I was afraid it was you since you hadn't shown back up on the boards yet. I hope you feel better fast and are able to enjoy the journey again.
20. I'm getting sleeved on July 11th. they could have scheduled me for June 27th, but my wife could not get off of work that day or the day after so I pushed it back so she could be there with me. That's ok...I'd rather be a Firecracker than a Jewel anyway. Firecracker sounds much more manly

Do People Read the Board Or Search??

Thanks for the support chilo. I like to think that I get my sense of humor from my dad who has a very dry and subtle wit about him. I'm with you on reading the status updates. I will usually only read a thread on the boards if the title intregues me. There is just too much to sort through on the boards. I guess that is one of the hard things about having the size membership that VST has. That is also why I really like the new Groups feature. Can't wait to see more and more people using that.
22. I'm no longer a "Jewel of June". Surgery is scheduled for July 11th.

Do People Read the Board Or Search??

I usually only reply if I have something funny to say... ok that wasn't funny.
24. ok so for the last couple of months my wife, since we are both getting sleeved, has been reading VST over my shoulder. but now that she has insurance approval she has registered her own profile. I guess I have to watch what I say from now on...lol
