    Anyone from Minnesota

Hi all! I feel so good right now. Best decision ever to get rid of that wicked band and have VSG. My surgery was on May 29th with Dr. Jones at PNC and at 3 1/2 months out, I'm losing steadily for the most part. A couple of questions 1) How long were you all in Prilosec? I tried going off at 2 months post op and had bad heartburn at night...so PNC has me staying on it a bit longer. 2) What about weight stalls? I've been the same weight for over a week. Maybe I should kick up my protein or exercise?? I'm down almost 60lbs from before surgery. I know that's good, but this stall makes me a little nervous. I have a long way to go to get to my goal....it's a crazy good journey.
  2. I did eggs during pureed stage...just added some milk and blend it in blender. It was so good. My experience is that I can't eat that much. I'm 2 months out and besides not being hungry I get full super fast. I promise it gets better. I was also so sick of soups. I would blend anything I could get my hands on. As long as it was high protein apple sauce consistency I would eat it. I loved refried beans with salsa, guacamole and sour cream. I would measure the beans to 1/4 cup and add a tad of the other stuff. Delicious. Good luck! P.S. I can eat part of a hamburger...no problems. I have avoided pastas only because of lack of nutritional value. I promise you'll start to feel more human. Not eating good food messes with your brain. It'll get better. Hang in!

  5. I was cathed after surgery too a few times. It's just probably from anesthesia.

    No weight loss

I would not worry. That's about where I was at and it will start to come off. Give it a little more time. Hang in there.

    Vitamins and Post-Op Diet

I won't lie...after surgery the head hunger is tough....but that's what it is...HEAD hunger. I'm almost 2 months out and so so so glad I did this for myself. I can actually say that REAL hunger hasn't happened like before surgery. I actually don't fell real hunger the same. I'm still trying to figure that out. It's so empowering to not have real hunger and watch other people shove food in their faces...I guess cuz that's what I used to do. I've gone out to eat and to leave a restaurant feeling great while others are moaning in fullness is a great feeling....not that I want others to be miserable (I'm not that mean)... but to think I FEEL GOOD and to see how stuffed and miserable I used to be...makes me nauseated to think. Okay...sorry for the tangent. Lol. I take a Flintstone chewable Vitamin, Vit D, Vit B (once a week that dissolves under tongue) Calcium Carmel chew, and Biotin ( to try and help with hair loss). It's hard to rate 1-10. Each day is different. But I can say this is THE BEST GIFT I'VE EVER BEEN GIVEN.

    Bad breath and taste

It's probably from Ketosis. It'll get better. It's one of those little things we may go through when losing weight rapidly.
  11. Ice packs should help too!

    Novice in the kitchen

I ate refined beans, salsa, sour cream, and guacamole. I layered it and measured....then put in a small coffee mug. I use this small coffee mug a lot when eating as I know how much a 1/4 and 1/2 cup is when I use this mug. I also bought Panera's soups and would add seasonings. Try Fairlife skim or chocolate milk. It's good and high protein. Just some ideas...good luck. Welcome to the "other side"...you are going to love it here.
  13. I would definitely call your bariatric clinic. That sounds like too much pain. I slept in a recliner for about a week after surgery and that helped a lot. Stay on top of your pain meds too. Best of luck...hang in there.

    Vomitting after surgery

The anesthesia team gave me a patch behind my ear pre op. I left it in for 3 or 4 days. Then I just made sure to have meds on hand because Im VERY prone to nausea. I did just fine. Make sure you tell everyone you are prone to nausea and they should help do whatever it takes. Good Luck and best wishes

    Hiccups

I get them after I get done eating. Reflux or eating too fast???

    YEAST INFECTIONS

I had a horrible case of oral thrush about a week after surgery. I was on liquid Nystatin and that did the trick. I think it happens...get treated....you'll feel better.
  19. The irritation in your throat could be from the tube they used to ventilate you during surgery...but I ended up at one week out with the NASTIEST case of oral thrush. It was uncomfortable to drink. It looked like white spots on my tongue, back of throat, and even gums. It was fairly easy to treat with a prescription of liquid Nystatin. The breath and bad taste is probably from Ketosis. Good Luck on your journey!

    Fairlife milk?

I really like the skim version of Fairlife and the chocolate. It's more expensive, but worth it. I will mix it with regular milk or my Protein shakes. I've poured some over a few fresh strawberries and blueberries and that was good too....anything to get the boost of protein.
  21. Hi out there, I had my band to sleeve revision on May 29th. I'm doing pretty good so far. I'm on pureed foods, trying hard to get my liquids in, and feeling full. I'm very happy with my decision to go ahead and do the revision. My main concern is that I still have a lump where my port was "dug out" and there's another lump near the incision where my stomach was taken out. You can't see the lumps, but feel them. I think I still look kindov pregnant or something. Is that normal? I'm walking and don't seem to be having gas issues. Sometimes I'll get a sharp pain in those areas (of the lumps) when I move a certain way or roll onto my side when sleeping. Is this normal? I have a clinic-1 month follow up- appt. on Friday and I'll ask. I don't have a fever or any drainage from the incisions...everything looks healed. It just bothers me that these lumps are there. Do you think they could be hematomas from surgery and if so...will they go away or does the surgeon have to drain them? Ugh. Thanks for any input.
  22. Hi there! I had my band in May 2011 and just had my band removed and revision to sleeve on May 29th in one surgery. Went great!!! Port was twisted and they had to dig it out so I'm a little more sore at that incision site....but not bad. Surgery took about 3 hrs, spent 2 nights in hospital. The worst part was that I couldn't pee so the nurses had to cath me a few times...Pain was manageable. No nausea...or complications. So glad I did it. I'm now down about 30 lbs since my preop physical. So happy!
  23. Hi there, I had my band to sleeve revision last Friday the 29th. Surgery took 3 hrs, was in the hospital for 2 nights. Now at 4 days post op...It's going okay. I'm super bloated and look pregnant, but I'm walking walking walking....that should help. I'm still on clear liquids and able to get in adequate amount. The pain I was not expecting was the cramping after each sip of liquids. I'm taking a med called Hyoscyamine Sulfate 0.125mg... that dissolves under my tongue...seems to help a little. I've been on liquid Vicodin and going to start taking plain Acetaminophen liquid tonight instead. I've had a couple of BMs....it was pure liquid. (Sorry....TMI but it helped me when reading other people's recoveries with all the lovely details). Good luck everyone. You can do this! Let's do this together!!!
  24. Hi there! I would love to join this little support group. I'm having revision from band to sleeve on May 29th. I live in Minnesota and looking forward to connecting with others going through this journey...near and far.
