  1. How is your preop diet going so far?
  2. Did you have to do a 6 month diet? If so how long did it take to get your surgery date from your last nutrition class?
  3. I didnt have to do a liquid diet. I was told not to gain anymore weight and given a low calorie diet worksheet to start one week before surgery.
  4. I also had to do the 6 month diet thing. I was disappointed when I found out but the time goes by soooo fast. I am now in my 5th month. My 6th month visit will be July 6th. I am now greatful that I had to wait the six months because I have sampled Protein shakes and found recipes and witnessed a lap band recovery first hand through a co-worker. I am now looking forward to my last visit and I am hoping that it will only take a week to schedule my surgery. Use this time to document your journey. I have created a vlog on youtube. I document how things are going weekly or when ever I have an appointment. Sit back and take advantage of the time.
  5. Congrats on your decision to get banded. I am also a July bander. I do not have a surgery date yet. I am going through private insurance so I had to do a 6 month medically supervised diet. July 6th will be my 6 month mark. I am hoping to have surgery either July 13th or July 20th. I am insulin resistant with chronic back pain. I also have a family history of diabtes and all the bad stuff. I am hoping to stop the history and reverse the bad. I had a partial hysterictomy romval of one tube and ovary due to PCOS. Hopefully this surgery will help with some of the complications due to PCOS ( Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). Do you know when you will get your surgery date? I am also doing a vlog on youtube. You can find me by typing in blackberrry princess. Good luck and keep us updated!
  6. ODS insurance is threw Nike, Inc. So maybe OHP didnt want to bear the cost.
  7. My classmate who is also taking this journey said she was given a machine to take home and use during the night time to do the sleep study. I hope I get to take mine home. Do I dont want to have to spend the night any where. Just not being able to sleep in my own home would cause me to sleep irregular.
  8. I was looking at all my options also. I was sure about the Lap Band when I first signed up with the fourm then my cousin talked me into the bypass. But today my doctor said that he will suggest the Lap Band because I am the ideal canidate for the Lap Band because there are less complications.
  9. I have told my cousin who had the gastric bypass that I was doing it and she said congrats. Other than that I have not told anyone else that I was actually going to go through with the surgery I just told my mother, and husband that I was playing around with the idea. I feel ashamed but I have been fighting my weight for the past 10 years I need extra help be for it gets out of control. My endocrinologist congratualted me today. I will tell my husband maybe 3 months into my 6 month medically supervised diet.
  10. I go for my REE testing tomorrow morning. I was wondering if anyone else done this testing before.
  11. I love the video. I almost cried for you ( happiness). You look really healthy, happy and alive!
  12. Hello I just started the process with the dietitian and the blood work. My first appointment is February 1st 2011. My classmate talked me into getting the lap band and I must say that so far this is the best advise anyone has given me. My goal weight is 175 my heaviest is 250 and 250 is my current weight. My insurance covers 85% of the surgery and I pay $30.00 per specialist appointment. I currently have double coverage. I am on medical leave from work because I have a torn disk between L5-S1 and this extra weight is not helping the healing process not one bit.
  13. I was contacted today by Dr. Halpins medical assistant. I will be seeing her next month. It is nice to see everyone and the different experiences. I hope others join in on the Oregon forum. I will be looking for a mentor soon. Does Good Sam or Dr. Halpin require the patient to lose weight before the surgery?
  14. OK, it took a total of 6 days for the approval of the preauth with ODS. They are paying 85% for surgery. I will keep updating as I go so others who use this insurance will be able to navigate during his or her journey.
  15. did you get the surgery? I also have ODS through my husband whom works for Nike and through my employer Multnomah County.
  16. I am curious does a six month supervised diet include medication and treatment from an endocrinologist? I have been seeing an endocrinologist for a year now and he has been putting me on medications and giving me advice on how to lose weight. It is not working but I did enjoy working out at the gym (not the spendy membership) and have grown to love raw veggies. I am being treated for PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and taking a diabetic medication for the past year. I looked at my online medical record from the community health network I belong to and it had OBESE in capital letters. That hurts! Even though its true.
  17. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. I filled out the paperwork for the lap band surgery on Friday 1/14/2011. I hear it takes about 3 weeks for ODS to contact your doctor with an approval or denial. I have about two weeks to go as of 1/21/2011. I have PCOS and my OB/GYN and endocrinologist are both treating me for my weight problem. I am taking metformin 500 mg 3x's a day to aid in weight loss and preventive measure for diabetes. With these diagnosis combined I am being optimistic that the surgery will be approved. I will keep the Oregon/Washington residents updated. Weigh: 250 Height: 5'6 Preauth sent in:1/14/11
