    Couch to 5k

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried the from couch to 5K regimen? There's a few different ones out there, but the one I found is supposed to have you ready in 9 weeks. It seems doable. I just have a problem with consistency! I am also pretty overweight so I feel self-conscious when running/jogging. Should I lose more weight before I even consider it or just give it a go?

    Zumba?

I LOVE Zumba...I can't offer you any advice as to what DVDs you should get, but I can tell you, the in person classes are GREAT...and you don't need to feel embarrassed if you don't know the moves are uncoordinated, because chances are there is someone else the same way..plus it's so fast that everyone is just paying attention to the instructor. You can also catch on fairly easily b/c the instructor will repeat moves. I just read an article that Zumba burns anywhere from 500-800 calories per hour.

What is your favorite non carbonated beverage?

^ agreed....I LOVE diet snapple. It is expensive but if you buy them in bulk at Sam's Club or BJ's it helps a bit. I also like the raspberry green tea Crystal Lite.

I hate going to the gym!!

I hate the process of working out...walking to the gym , driving to the gym (if it's a day I am not already on campus), packing my gym bag, getting sweaty (I HATE getting sweaty) and then having to take a shower afterwards (especially if I have to do it at the gym b/c I can't go straight home afterwards)...not to mention the extra laundry I have to do in order to maintain clean work out clothes...the whole process is so annoying.... Last year I bought an elliptical thinking that itwould save me form going to the gym but I've only used it like 5x...I am so glad I did not buy it new (i got a really good deal on Craig's List) Last semester I started taking Zumba classes which were a lot of fun but since the school has been closed for winter break, so has the gym.... And I did get a personal trainer for weight lifting..Ive only done one session with her and then had to stop due to my surgery and not being allowed to lifet more than 10lbs but I plan on resuming with her next week or the week after, that's only 1x perweek.... I also need to start using my Wii Fit again and biking outdoors...

    Anyone take Depakote?

I recently was banded and switched to the powdered sprinkle tablets because I was told in my pre-op class that I wasn;t supposed to have any pills bigger than a normal aspirin like tylenol, etc. unless they were crushed or liquified..problem is they don;t make Depakote XL (or any XL in crush or liquids) and so now im just on regular depakote and I don't think it's as effective...I have been a lot more moody and down...Any recommendations? I have an appt. w/ my psychiatrist in a couple weeks...

    20 somethings!

Hi, glad to see so many other youngsters out here I am 23 and was banded on 12.15.10 ...being this young was defintely a concern my surgeon had..I think I was one of his youngest patients. Like many of you who posted I had to explain myself to both him (and some others) that yes I am young, I have lost weight on my own, but with the amount I need to lose, it was going to be a lot more difficlut without having help and also, I too didn't want to be one of the more common 50 somethings who wait until they are fed up and have to lose weight or else. This is an issue that I really want to address NOW while I am still young so that I have the rest of my life to be healthy.... I just wish I was there, unfortunately not even close. But I am definitely headed in the right direction!

    Feeling restriction??

i haven;t had a fill yet, but i was wondering the same thing! I am really not feeling the restrictions...but I was reading on here that a lot of people don't feel it until they have been adjusted a few times.....what is cc? i dont know what this means?
  13. I was banded on 12/17 by Dr. Mo, and he did a good job. My pre-op class was lead by his partner, Dr. L. and he seems personable. I am interested if there are others out there who have had surgeries by either dr. and who have attended the support groups. Have they been helpful?

    newbie

Hi Alison, I was a little anxious as well but found the whole thing to be a lot smoother than I thought! I was in and out of the hospital within a few hours with just some minor pain. I am sure you can find better descriptions from others in the other forum topics but my biggest annoyance was the sore throat I got from having the tube in my throat during anesthesia. Also, my stomach was sore so when I did a lot of shifting around it hurt, but I am pretty good now! The only thing I would be cautious of is don't over due it and don't mess with your incision too much as my stitches came out and I had to get new ones yesterday. oops! but even still, I am fine. The diet is not fun either so make sure you know what kind of Protein shakes you like and have them ready. Also, yogurt, and sugar free popsicles have been helpful as well. Although I am finally on pureed now and am happy!

    newbie

Hi everyone! My name is Jen. I was banded on 12/17 and am new to this site. I am 23 y.o. (Is there anyone else here young out here?) and have been overweight since adolescence but recently gained 60lbs since graduating college! This is when I knew I had to do something. I have tried, successfully and unsuccessfully to lose weight but I knew that I had to have more help than just diet and exercise when I tipped the scale at 225! (I am only 5'0) It was about 5 months ago that I attended an info session and began the pre-op process for surgery. For those of you considering surgery, feel free to ask me any questions. and for those of you that are ahead of me in this process, I look forward to learning from you.
