    Brogerw's Before and After Pics

    My Before & After Photos!
  2. My daughter is having surgery June 4 - that is a Sat. and she has to be back to her college classes by Tues. June 7. Does that seem reasonable? Expect she will still have discomfort but could she sit in a class for a couple of hours?
  3. You are all wonderful for your responses - thanks so much. We are going on the assumption that she'll be able to sit, even if uncomfortably, in class on Tues. for part of class at a minimum - if it turns out she can't, then she won't. Bigger problem now is trying to get thru the protein drink diet until surgery!!!! She's sticking with it but not happily - gosh, she's mean when she's hungry! I sympathize and understand and even offered solid food, atleast this week - a little white meat chicken, etc. She's having some veggies with the shakes but not feeling satisfied. Understandable. It's so interesting to see so many different pre-operation preps - some have a 2 week liquid fast, some a couple of days, some not at all. All so different, it's interesting. Her liver isn't enlarged so if she gets too crazy, I woúldn't mind her eating something like chicken or eggs once during the day. 4 or 5 days before surgery though it will be stick to it to the letter. Good luck to everyone who hasn't been banded yet. Will keep posting on our progress.
  4. thanks to everyone on their input on getting back to normal after surgery. of course, we'll play it by ear but my daugher is hoping to make her class (one for about 3 hours) on Tues. following Sat. surgery. I will drive her and pick her up and she doesn't really have anything to carry. School has elevator too. She may even struggle in for a quiz on Monday and leave right after if she doesn't feel up to staying. Did anyone take "Gax-X" before gas pains started as a precaution? Bought a large supply, based upon recommendations on this site, to have on hand.

    Insurance Denied !

Oh! do I sympathize! We also have BCBS. Sent in all documentation months ago - was denied 2x for same reason - not documented 6 month weight loss program - had been seeing endocrinologist for last 3 years; every month for past 6 months - they weighed/advised on diet/documented monlty discussions, etc. and also periodically met with their dietitian - denied because "wasn't medically supervised,e tc. "- I argued that Weight Watchers isn't really "medically supervised" nearly to the extent that a personal physician who is part of a Weight Management Group - also includedd 1 year of Weight Watcher records but from 18 months ago. Finally, got approval yesterday - surgeon did a Peer to Peer that was also denied. The Appeal by us however finally got original decision overturned. It turned out that my former employer required participant in a specific program "" Better Health" but that was not available to us. I also but BCBS directly in touch with endocrinologist so they could tell her EXACTly what they needed in writing. While the denials took 48 hours or so each time, approval took almost 3 weeks!!! But it is done and surgery scheduled for 2 weeks. Don't give up; be a squeeky wheel.

    Any june 2011 Banders???

My daughter is scheduled for June 4 - I relay info to her as she is in college and has lots of work.
  7. sounds like you all have PCOS - Polycystic Ovary Syndrome - look it up! Darkening skin on neck, etc. Skin Tags, weight gain/hard to lose, pre-diabetes or diabetes. etc. It's hormonal and gets worse with weight gain. Weight loss is one great way to diminish symptoms.
  8. I keep an eye on this blog for my 20 yo daughter who is just starting process as well - hopes for surgery in May after 6 mo. supervision/dr. visits, etc. We have Anthem as well. As a mother trying to learn as much as I can; she is less interested in the info. although we are going to a support meeting this week of 1year plus banders and will try next month to go to one for under a year banders to learn as much as we can that way. I called Anthem the other day to ask about "requirements"and they said there wasn't any the service person could find. Going to have surgeon's office check in a couple of weeks (when we get back from vacation) - haven't actually scheduled surgeon consult. yet. When do you expect surgery?
