    Help! newbie needing hospital advice!

I had my surgery in Bath under Richard Krysztopik. I can not recommend him highly enough. The BMI offer a package deal which includes all your appointments and fills for a year together with a dietician. It was a bit pricey at £8000 but worth every penny as it's the aftercare that makes the band successful. Hope all goes well for you!

    Hello

Thank goodness you're getting the bypass. You did so well with the band it would be awful if you backtracked because of the MRSA. I haven't lost any additional weight since late September as I've been really ill with fibromyalgia. I am so inactive it difficult to shift anything. I'm hoping to get back on track really soon. Take care of yourself and good luck with the surgery in January!

    Hi from a new one!

Welcome to board. I was banded in February and currently going through a rough patch having just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Like you I had tried all the diets going and kept getting fatter and fatter and eventually peaked at just under 21st 7lbs. I'm now 4 stone lighter and I know that if I hadn't lost the weight I'd be in a far more pain now than I could cope with. At least I am still mobile. Best of luck with your operation. It will come around sooner than you think and you will soon be reaping the benefits!

    Dry Skin or Hair loss

Dry skin and brittle nails could be a sign of hypothyroidism. I'd get your thyroxine level checked.

    February 2007 bandsters!

.................I got off my butt and and went swimming AND I enjoyed it! I managed 40 lengths in 25 minutes which I was quite chuffed about as I haven't been in almost a year! Now I just need to keep it up and hopefully see an impact on my rate of weight loss!
  9. Same here too! 4 small and 1 a large.

    February 2007 bandsters!

I'm also losing hair but like Suzanne I have a lot to spare so I'm not too worried at the moment. I'm having a hard time keeping motivated with the eating at the moment as I've only lost 5lbs since early April. I know I need to exercise but I'm so tired after work it's all I can do to sort the house and the kids out! I'll get there in the end though.

How do they diagnose pouch dialation?

I'm not entirely sure but a barium swallow/meal would show up a dilated pouch. I had one done for a different reason yesterday and it showed up the pouch beautifully. However it was a disgusting experience and I hope never to need one again!

Does anyone else feel like an amputee?

Thanks everyone for your replies; it's good to know I'm not going through this alone. I think I just need to take it one day at a time; with a bit of luck my brain will get used to it!
  13. After a having a really bad week with band complications I've really come to understand that the lapband is by no means an easy way out when it comes to losing weight. I sometimes feel like I've had part of me amputated. Don't get me wrong I don't regret having the operation done for a second but it really is a massive change. I didn't realise quite how much I was emotionally dependant on food and I feel like I've lost a part of me. Take this evening, I'd just had my barium swallow and was feeling really crappy. My usual instinct would have been to get a large takeaway (probably an Indian) and veg out on the couch for the evening. Instead I had to be content with a very small chicken breast a tablespoon of potato, a tablespoon of carrot and a small floret of broccoli!! It's really weird and I'm not getting used to it as quickly as I'd like. I'm constantly having these battles with my body and my body is winning every time for a change. I never overeat as I want this surgery to work but I'm so damn irritable I feel like screaming! Does this make any sense to anyone or is this just an emotional splat on the screen!!lol!!

    Question about that "full feeling"

The feeling of fullness after getting a fill shouldn't be painful. For me it is a feeling that nothing else will go down. I don't get any sensation from the pouch at all. The pain you're describing is exactly what I get if I eat the wrong type of food (e.g. crusty bread) or if I eat too quickly and don't chew enough. In either case I invariably PB which relieves the pain immediately although but I'm often left feeling sore around the pouch for about 24 hours. I hope this helps!
  15. Thanks for your reply Susannah. I do suffer from depression which is closely linked to anxiety but I've been stabilised on medication for years and have it under control. I've only ever had one panic attack in my life and that was during an IT exam a few years ago when I was under a lot of pressure during my Master's degree. I don't drink coffee or alcohol so there isn't an obvious reason for why this should be happening.
