Struggling a bit after surgery

Jean A Enger

I had my Gastric Sleeve surgery August 24th . But I feel I have no energy . I had 20 or more pills to take before my surgery but now that my stomach is the size of a cup I can only take the necessary pills . I don't like the taste of protein shakes . Maybe I will have to either sprinkle the protein in my food or start eating protein bars ? Not sure . I have to take my prozac for my depression which is very important for me . Since it helps balance my moods is a absolute must for me . Along with the Prozac I am suppose to take Wellbutrin or also known as Bupropin . A gummy multivitamin . It just gets so overwhelming with all these things I am suppose to be taking and I can't cause of my stomach being so small . I wish I could drink a gallon of ice water cause I get so thirsty . Does anyone else seems to have these same problems ?

Yep. had surgery almost 4 weeks ago. Had bypass to correct a huge hiatel hernia. Lost about 20 lbs. I am struggling with having to grind up all my meds, Also supposed to be taking my buproprion but I'm not. Real sick of living on cottage cheese, milk, soups. Fell off wagon today. Went to Panera bread for mac and cheese. Had 1/2 for lunch.

Also alot of trouble moving bowels. Taking miralax and colace. I too would love to be able to chug a gallon of ice water. Not seeing Dr. till end of month. Feel I have no support or backup; like I'm going thru this all alone. Wish I could find a local support group. Feeling very depressed.

I had my surgery just a few days before you had yours, August 21. When we were going through supplements to take I was told that the gummy vitamins were not good and to try chewables instead, Flintstones, etc. 1/2 a Flintstones vitamin is the correct dosage for children and a full vitamin is appropriate for an adult. If you're having trouble with the protein shakes and getting liquids in, try sugar free popsicles, they don't take up as much room in the stomach and they are very soothing to the throat on the way down.

The regular protein shakes did not taste great so what Istarted doing was mixing the protein into a carnation breakfast shake, which tasted much more appealing. I would mix in 1/2 a scoop of the ensure chocolate protein powder with 1 8oz sugar free chocolate carnation and that brought the protein up to 20 g per shake so I was having an easier time hitting my numbers.

With your medicines I would suggest trying to space them out throughout the day. I am still trying to drink water/crystal lite every other hour, at each of these times maybe you could take a different medicine, planning which ones need to be taken at the start of the day and which ones need to be taken before bed.

Don't ever feel like you are alone, everyone is struggling in one way or another, as long as you keep working at it you'll get there and be thankful that you did.

I know, I know, the Pollyanna attitude can be a bit much, but I'm trying, lol.
