have you done any reading online about the post op eating plan? my hospital has a website for the bariatric surgery center, and the lists on the site are pretty explicit about what you can eat when.

Yes, any healthy diet is going to include fruits and vegetables, including after surgery. Usually, though, you won't be eating any salads or fruit until a couple months out or according to your surgeon's guidelines.

My stomach didn't tolerate salad/broccoli/cauliflower/or any kind of fruit till about the 3rd month. Week 1 was pretty much nothing - I was feeling so much pain, I couldn't eat. Week 2 - 4 was protein drinks and Cream of Chicken soup. Weeks 5 - 8, I was eating grilled chicken I ran through the food processor, refried beans and salsa pretty much 24/7.

Since then, my stomach will grumble but tolerate - tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, mushrooms, carrots, and (insert any fibrous vegetable here). And it grumbles but tolerates any fruit I've tried - apples, bananas, strawberries, grapes, pineapple.

All you can do is test your stomach with a very small bite and wait a few minutes to see how it responds.

I assume you are pre-surgery. The purpose of the sleeve for me, is a tool which restricts the portion sizes. That's it. Nothing more. Nothing less. I can eat any and every food. It is up to me to make healthy decisions and my success with the sleeve is based on those decisions. Not everyone gets WLS to become skinny. They may just want to lose enough weight to get off of their myriad of medications. They are not wanting to make dietary changes ... just eat less of the crap they currently eat. The sleeve will help them do that. Other people are looking to change their relationship with food. Not just eating less, but eating well balanced, nutritious meals and maybe even start exercising.

That is the journey I choose. My stomach has a capacity of about 8 oz, so I must choose the best bang for my buck nutritionally. I have a salad with all sort of good stuff in it every couple days. I love them. But know that you have to progress slowly up to having something like a spinach and kale salad. Lettuces are very fibrous and difficult to digest. Even with a normal stomach, so, with having 85% of the stomach removed, it's mechanical ability is impaired for a while, so don't push it.
