Pre-Op Begins today.. :(

Kind of a sucky day for me because I was told by my surgeon that the pre-op diet was to begin 1 week prior to surgery.. Get a call yesterday evening, and of course they made a mistake, and it's 2 weeks prior. Needless to say, I had to officially begin this morning on liquids. I wasn't even mentally prepared for this. I had made plans to go have my "last meals" this weekend, as I love pizza and Olive Garden and knew they would probably never taste the same again. They also restricted tea and coffee, but as I arrived to work this morning, I could smell the Keurig brewing and I just couldn't resist. Yes I had a cup of coffee :(.. Already off to a bad start. I ended up going to buy a 1.5 liter of water so that I can drink to the point of fullness so as to ward off the hunger pains today.. gonna be a long 13 days ahead of me... Sucks

Don't worry - do the best you can. I think the pre-op diet is much harder than post-op - when you actually dont want to eat anymore ;)

Don't think of it that way or you may cheat. Think of it as the beginning of you making the right choices for a healthy you! You dr won't know if you mess up once or twice. You will ! Don't cheat yourself of your new life. Good luck. We all know how very hard it is but everyone post op will tell you it's worth it. Hang in there :)

Wow, we have the same Dr. Feiz, Right? I just finally got my pre op letter email to me and they have me starting liquids just a few days before. I like them but I have to call them to find out what I should be doing and I am having surgery on the 13th! I like the dr., he seems very like he really knows whats he is doing, but office doesn't really keep in touch.

Good luck to you, I will keep you up to date on how it goes. By the way I decided to start my liquids today anyway, so you are not alone, good luck

I know exactly what you mean. My nutritionist is the one who said to do the 2 week liquid diet. It was confliction info so finally when I spoke to the office they said go ahead and do the 2 week liquid diet. I guess that just means more pounds shed before d day.. Good luck to you on the 13th. I was originally scheduled for that day but it conflicted with my finals. Can't wait to hear how it goes!

I'm dying here. I went to Rite Aid on my break, bought a shaker bottle, and a 4 pack of EAS myoplex carb sensitive protein shakes. They have 25g of protein so the 4 pack should last me for today right? I have a 5 lb tub of whey protein at home that I completely forgot this morning so I guess I'll be using that until surgery day.. these shakes are expensive. I have my handy dandy Jack Lananine Power Juicer so I'll go in on a few vegetable juices over the next few weeks or so.. only thing with juicing is that you go through soooo many vegetables at once.

Not protein shakes, Meal Replacement Shakes! The difference? One keeps you full and the other offers liquid protein. You should save the protein drinks for after surgery. Buy the Equate Meal replacement shakes at walmart. 6pk is 4$ which is enough for 2 days or the 12pk is $8.88. i lost 15lbs in 10 days with them.

Thanks for that great advice! I have invested lots of $$$$ in protein shakes but didn't even think about the meal replacement. I love this website :) I start my liquid diet on 12/12 in 4 short days which moves me 4 days closer to surgery on 12/26/12

Shut the front door! $4? I'll be at Walmart right after work! Do you know how many g of protein are in each shake?

I had a "last Dinner" celebration scheduled too but my long liquid diet ruined that. Its Cool! Now im no longer celebrating with food!

Pre Op

So I got the shakes! They are good... But last night was a complete fail. My mom didn't know my pre-op had officially started and she brought home Chili's takeout. I couldn't resist the big mouth bites and southwestern egg rolls. So pre op started today! 1 little day isn't so bad?
