Fearful

Hello Everyone ,

In April of this year I went to my first Kaiser Bariatric class where I weighed....299.9, I am 5'7 medium build. I wanted to cry infront of everyone, I hadn't weighed myself in quit a while. Needless to say I have been taking what they teach and utilizing it since and my last weight was....268.7 = the 10% they requested me to lose pre-op.

This is where the fear sets in, I have been on a 1200 calorie diet for 3 weeks and I hear that 1 year post-op your suppose to be at 600-800 calories. Really..how does this happen? The second concern is that I am a complete Vegan and I don't know of one person that has been Vegan that has gone through the surgery. Does anyone else?

I have a million dietary questions which the dieticians seem not able to answer very well for me. This creates a lot of fear and anxiety. I'm just really scared and feel so alone in this journey.

Sounds like you are doing great. No, I don't know anyone or read about anyone who is vegan and has had this surgery. It does not mean no one has and it definitely does not mean you cannot do it. You can. As far as the calorie reduction, you have to take in consideration the stomach size is reduced thus, easier to get full (less calorie intake). Do not overthink this. You've been successful as a vegan which is a challenge in this meat/diary filled world and you will be successful once you have this surgery. Believe in yourself and if there is no one who is a vegan and has had the surgery (which I doubt...they probably haven't posted), then you become the pioneer. Don't fallback now. Yes, you've shown you can lose weight on your own but most of us have done that too....our problems have been maintaining long term weight loss....this surgery will aid in you getting there.

Believe in yourself and you shall overcome your fear and anxiety.

I have been looking at videos on line (goggled) regarding sleeve surgery. There were several people there that were vegan. Good Luck.

Thank you so much for the support.

Gijane, I know your right, "Not to over think this" and "Maintaining long term weight loss." I started this journey because I can not maintain long term weight loss and how can one over think that!

Mollyb, I will continue to google for more vegans on-line.
