So I'm in search for a good protein powder to use. Any suggestions on a good brand with the right nutrients and also a good price?

Thanks,

Holly

I use the Pure Protein powder in Frosty chocolate. It's only 140 calories, 3 carbs, 25 grams of protein. It's not too sweet and it is very reasonable, I buy it at Walmart for under $20 for a big tub. I don't put it in the blender it gets too frothy - I mix it with water and put the shaker bottle in the freezer until it's really cold almost crystalized.

The ready to drink Premier Protein from Costco and Sams Club is also very good - and about $25 for 18 cartons, 150 calories, 5 carbs and 30 grams of protein.

This is the age old question! It so depends on your taste buds. The best thing to do is to try and get a hold of samples instead of buying a whole tub. That way you can try them out and find one that works for you!

I got some of the GNC Pro Performance unflavored and used that in my broth during the clear liquids stage to get my protein up. Got to where I just about couldn't stomach it anymore, but I tolerated it fine. Transitioned to full liquids yesterday, six days post-op, and find that the GNC powder mixed in with the strained cream-based heart healthy soups is quite doable. I've used it it cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, and cream of celery. I find it works better to make a whole can in advance (using our Bullet, then strain it) and let the foam settle for a few hours. Then I just heat 2 ounces at a time. I wouldn't want to drink this for the rest of my life, but it's not too bad, and still better than the BariEssentials protein shakes. Those were fine before surgery, but now just taste too sweet.
