First Day Back To Work - Not Bad At All

Well, I returned to work, arrived early - 7 AM, since I had insomnia last night - I figured I'd make the most of the day. After I got my walk on with the love of my life. My hubbage has been super awesome supportive. I am blessed. I keep my big GNC MIO flavored water at my side where ever I go, and I have a bottle of Isopure on my desk. I sip, sip, sip and that does the trick. I had egg-salad at my desk - started at 12, and finished at 3 - I took my sweet time eating bit by bit. I'm so afraid of feeling uncomfortable and visiting up-chuck city at work that I would rather slowly pace myself. Granted, it is HARD AS HELL. The shadow man from stress eater land is lurking over me all the time. It is so wierd to want to eat but to not be hungry. I think that is the biggest challenge for me. Recognizing and listening to my stress triggers and not immediately thinking FOOD. I find so much support, positivity and community on this site - thank you who ever reads and comments, you are lifting my spirit as I work through this life change. Every smiley face is getting a smile right back. I talked to my HR Director, she did not turn over the paperwork to my boss, kept it confidential as requested, fully supported me. (I LOVE WHEN HR DOES WHAT THEY SHOULD). I met with my boss, the good news...well she told me about my "bonus" for the performance year - we did well. However, she "negatively modified" my bonus because she felt I "struggled" this year. Let me define the struggle. An anonymous complaint to HR w/out facts, inuendo and no specific examples to substantiate the claim. I've asked time and again - but to no avail. And I got "dinged" because she did not feel I had as outstanding of a year as my peers. She smiled the whole time she said it. She's inspires me to be a better person. Even though it was a small "ding" - it is the point none the less. I've been working on my Resume - time to be successful somewhere else. Some day. I love my staff, my team, the work I do. It is challenging, fun. I've got AWESOME health bennies. So, I shut up and put up, or I move on. I don't think I could handle moving on so soon. So I will vent, and deal. And wish the flees of a thousand camels infest her pants.

Good for you but challenge your negative ding. Did she give you any negative review this year? Gather copies of any kudos from clients, co-workers, her, etc. Start with your lead and tell him, in an email you are going to raise a complaint that you feel you were discriminated agiainst due to your health issue. You mentioned a co worker that was let go due to illness - did she really warrant letting go? Perhaps this should go all the way to HR asap!

Major kuddos on a well-played first day back! Overall it sounds like you kicked butt!

I have a good boss but I have been in a position with another boss that told me I couldn't have a "smoke break" (i wanted the same 5 minutes people were getting to smoke to walk a quick pace around the building) because I didn't smoke. I took it to HR and won. He tried to have me let go for "performance" after that - after I got a 8 on a review scale of 8. Nope and I pushed it to the point they went through the people he let go or recommended be let go and he was demoted two months later.

Congrats! Your boss is difficult and mean spirited. Can you make an appeal with HR? Any ding is a ding and doesn't help us in any way. However, you are doing great to recognize how stress effects your mind and head hunger. Have a fun day! ;)

Can I just say i love this forum. I feel like I've found friends from days gone by. Your supportive comments make my day. Regarding the Flee Infested One...there is perception & reality. I am working with an executive coach to help with "perception" but the reality is, there are some things in this universe that are beyond my control and influence. I agree, a ding is a ding. Can I mention this issue arrose in May of LAST YEAR. And she is still in there like swimwear, as if it has been a cancer I can get rid of. My coach tells me that I'm doing all the right things and I should gussy up my resume and prepare to market my fine self. :) I keep what I like to call, a HEROSHIMA log, you know just in case a bomb goes off, I will have my shrinking ass covered. I know this. The truth shall set you free.

Ugh, bosses. Some are great, and some drive you up the proverbial wall. I transferred within my company to another store and went from an atmosphere where I had full carte blanche in my daily duties to one where my manager micro manages us to death. Her redeaming factor is that she does care about us and is reasonable about schedule changes and whatnot. I, too, will be dusting off the ol' resume in another year . Good luck on your job hunt! I'm sure you'll find something so amazing that you'll want to stick your tongue out at your current boss and go, "na na na na naaaa. I've got a better job! ha ha ha". Juvenile, but oh-so-satisfying to imagine.

Best of luck!

Hi sthodge,

Thank you for your input and if you don't mind I have a question, I am having my surgery on 3/14/12 (VSG) and I am nervous about returning to work, I see you stated you returned to work barely two weeks after surgery, was it difficult to return so soon? Did you feel okay? I have a desk job and I am taking two wks, I know it varies from patient to patient but I would love to return before the two weeks. Any advisement would be so welcome! Thank you and Many Blessings on your Journey!!

P.S.: Awesome comment "Wishing flees of a thousand camels infest her pants" So Priceless!! Thumbs Up!

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.
    • I'm literally almost crying reading this. Mostly because I'mon this pre-op diet and these last two days have been difficult... but also because I needed this! Thank you! Congrats!
