So I was talking to a friend of the colleague who had the sleeve - it apparently took her some 12 weeks to recover...I was thinking about having the surgery at the beginning of April as we follow up with a 9 day break...My question is, will that be enough time to recover and go back to work?

I work with all age groups - it isnt physical per se but there is a vast range of little 'uns! From Pre k to Grade 12 - I teach music, singing and drama...

Advice anyone, please! This is really the only thing that I am haltering at...

I was okay at the 3rd week post op. But I did not return to work till the beginning of fifth week. My work is not physical at all -- I'm a software engineer. Though I did not feel any pain, I used to get tired in the middle of the day and needed a nap for atleast about 2 hrs. So I just thought why risk it and stayed home the whole one month. If you can, do take atleast 3 weeks off. You'll feel more energetic..

Everyone recovers differently, either due to pain tolerance, complications, desire, or a combination of them. I was full of energy on day 4. Haven't stopped since.

I am a stay at home mom and run an online business so I will slow down some but won't have an actual "return to work". My surgeon suggests 2 weeks off for most jobs and says that most people feel fine to return by that point or before. I won't be sleeved until 3/20 so I can't comment from experience but that is what he tells me and I trust him completely to be realistic and honest. Having said that, if I was returning to a regular job I would feel comfortable with 9 days off after as long as the job wasn't too physical.

HTH!

I went back to work after 10 days and was completely off all pain medications. It wasn't the easiest. Driving to the office, I'd find myself trance like. But it was okay and I made sure that I walked when ever possible. I was fearful of getting a blood clot. ;)

Wow everyone, thanks for the advice and support - I think I am just going to go for it! Yes, it sounds like my chum had complications...she did have her surgery in Canada and then flew back to the UAE - a hefty long haul flight...plus, without being rude, she is over 20 years older than me...so maybe her recovery might have been age related! Not that I am ageist to say the least! Love to you all. xxx

I have an office job and I actually returned 3 days after surgery. I was tired and a lil achey but was fine. I think if your able to have atleast a wk, since you work with the school you should do great.
