It's harder than I imagined...

I had my surgery on May 23rd and today is my 4th day post-op. I was extremely calm before the surgery. I wasn't feeling any anxiety or fear at all but ooh boy, then it hit. After I was sitting home trying to gulp down my disgusting protein shake, I just started to sob. What have I done? I love food and now I can't touch it. Will it ever get better? Logically I know that it will but when I get like this I feel so helpless. Then of course my mind starts to wonder - I'm 30 years old, single, no love prospects. I broke it off with my boyfriend on my 30th birthday because I was tired of the drama yet here I am, wondering if I dial him with my caller ID off will he know it's me? So ridiculous! It's amazing how the beginning of this journey is bringing so many emotions that I thought I wouldn't have to deal with. I just want to say that reading the forums has been a tremendous help. You guys are some of the most positive people I have ever come across and you're truly an inspiration. I know you don't know me from Adam but you've been a tremendous help. And for that, I thank you.

First-congratulations!!!!! I have a protein shake every morning, here is my recipe: chocolate protein, 8 oz. skim milk, a little decaf instant coffee, a little peppermint extract and tons of ice and it is as thick as McDonald's. I have a Hamilton Beach small blender that doubles as a drinking cup. So when everything is in the cup then add the ice until filled. I have ice cube trays that make very small cubes and use a whole tray for each shake. I bought them at Bed Bath and Beyond for about $3.

Next, you love life. Dear Abby/Ann Landers, one of them says to make a list of the pros and cons of the boy friend. Do you think you can live without him or was he just someone you liked, not loved, having around knowing you were not alone. These are questions only you can answer. I am married for 42 1/2 years to my high school sweetheart and we went to different high schools. My husband and I broke up for 3 months when we were 16/17 and it was his birthday and I sent him a birthday card and then a letter and we have been together ever since.

The protein shakes are not forever but hopefully the weight loss will be.

I just love having them first thing in the morning because I hate eggs and breakfast foods. I use body Fortress, at Walmart around $17.

Good luck with your new journey.

Arlene

I was banded on May 1st and it's gets easier. Everyone post op diet is different but I can give you my advice and what has worked for me. After my surgery I was brunt out on sugar free jello and broths. I only had sugar free popsicles and water. Two day later I was able to at protein shakes. I don't know what protein shakes you are drinking but I love Atkins brand and Muscle Milk Cookies and Cream. I am sorry you broke it off with your boyfriend but things happens for a reason. You don't need any drama or anything extra right now to trigger your old habits. I am not going to tell you to forget about your ex because that is easier said than done, but try to keep your mind busy so your won't be tempted to call him. I have a pinterest account it keeps me busy for hours and the game Candy Crush. LOL I know this is an adjustment but you are going to do just fine. Remember the real reason why you got the lap band. Good luck to you.

What your feeling is normal, we have all been there and the feelings are pretty over whelming in the beginning. I was what I call very prepared for the surgery but nothing prepared me for the emotional rollercoaster ride I had for the first few weeks and month after surgery. I went through a period of time, I morned food. I never thought I would every be able to get all those calories down and felt I would live on shakes for the rest of my life. Enjoy your band and allow yourself some time to adjust to the new life. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! Dylanmiles - Your shake sounds delicious, btw! And LadyDiva - I am burnt out on Muscle Milk drinks. They disgust me because that's all I had during my pre-op diet! LOL Luckily I found GNC ones that I tolerate and I ordered flavorless protein powder to put in my food. My ex was someone I cared about but I had no desire to contact him AT ALL since I broke it off until these past few days. So I know that it's just me being super vulnerable right now. I've been reading these forums all day and been in chat and I feel way better. Thank you all!

I wish you the very best. Thus far I never regret doing the surgery. I needed this lifestyle change, I needed this tool to get me where I want to be in my weigh loss journey. I enjoy the compliments and attention that I have gained. I hear it's normal to feel the way you do but remember you made this decision. Lapband Talk Forum is here to support you along the way but you must reach out for the support.
