Surgery 2 weeks from today...man will the internet scare you

Wow.. 2 weeks from today I will be in the hospital getting lapbanded. Its hard to believe that my struggle with weight loss has come to this, but i am ready to tackle it head on.

Lets rewind. I am 33 years old and in live in Tallahassee Florida, home to my beloved seminoles. I am happily married and have a 5 year old son named Dylan. Growing up I swam competitively from the time i was six years old through college. Although i had to watch my weight because i swam so much, it wasnt an "issue". My eating habits growing up were atrocious..two orders of chicken fingers and fries was a regular. Once college ended, swimming stopped and the "real world" set in. Sitting at a desk 9 hours a day, eating junk and not exercising lead to a 100lb weight gain.

I have decided on Lap Band and will be banded May 9th at Tallahassee Memorial Hopsital by Dr. Eliot Sieloff. In preparing for surgery, I have read blogs and books and searched the internet...man is there a lot of stuff out there...funny how the things that stick are the scary parts.. How do you get past that? Any encouragement would be much appreciated~!!

I know how you feel. I had to stay off of Youtube because they put anythiing on there. If I can make a book suggestion to you? "The Emotional First + Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery" By Cynthia L. Alexander. If you have a tablet I download this book for $5. I will email you later with the information. Good Luck to you.

I think if something get's 'stuck' you have to kinda make yourself throw up or have a 'productive burp'. I know that sounds weird, but according to several vlogs I have watched I think thats what fixes it. The way I understand it, it doesn't get 'stuck' so you can't breathe- it think the stuck sensation happens lower down. i don't know if that is accurate or not. Good luck to you!

Thanks ladydiva! I will definetly download it. I read something (cant remember the name) skinny jeans or something like that, and was a little informative. They just lumped all 3 bariatric surgeries into one.. Good luck to you as well :)

It can be scary, but also informative. It's important to be aware of little signs that if left alone can turn into bigger problems. Ignoring things like reflux that returns, and other seemingly innocuous things can lead to damage. I bookmarked these pages for reference just in case.

If you are going into this fully informed, you know that the band isn't a lifetime device and when it's time for removal, there's no pop-up timer to tell you. Best to be prepared and alert.

Best wishes to you.

Congratulations on the getting the band. I am one of the weird ones, I never researched or looked on line. My lung doctor told me you are doing this and I never looked back. I found this site and being computer challenged I didn't know how to find everything and read negatives. I guess that was good for me.

Just remember the band is a tool and needs your help to work. Also every doctor and dietitian in this world have their own rules. When in doubt call them. We all try to help with general questions.
