CALL YOUR DOCTORS

I would really hate to think I was being paid a service and the person paying me did not take my knowledge that I went to medical school for 12 years enough that they would have to get help on a website for medical issues.

I can not believe that people really refuse to call their doctors after surgery. They are getting paid to take care of you and a pretty penny I might add. Issues regarding pain, swelling, chest pain, can't eat or drink, throwing up, leg pain, what you should be eating are all questions that your surgeon should be answering. They are getting paid 24 hours a day 7 days a week. If you are having chest pain dont post it here, get your butt to the er. If you are vomiting and cant stop, feel dehydrated, cant keep food down, have leg pain or any kind of unnormal pain then call your doctors.

I dont know why you all are scared of them. I have my doctors personal cell phone that I can call anytime I am having an issue and he will answer every single time. We are not medical professionals and posting here when you are having chest pain you could have been to the ER or dead by the time you"re done typing it.

Stop playing with your lives and your bands. Call your surgeons if you are having these issues. What really are you afraid of? That you're bothering them? Well bother them they make 4 times the amount that most of us make a year for a service. A service they chose to have.

I would love to have the insight as to what is going through these peoples minds. I often wonder if they are afraid to call the doctor thinking he/she will say "OK, come in we're taking your band out".

Just to add some feedback/inisght on why people might post medical issues..

Possibly, people do call their doctors, are waiting to hear back, or heard what the dr said and want to see if someone online experienced something similar. Or they don't feel their condition is urgent. They are not coming online for a diagnosis but for support. Or to figure out some good questions to ask the doctor, that they might not have thought of on their own.

I know when I got stuck for the first time, I posted I have an appointment with my surgeon tmmrw, but am interested in your opinions...

I was not avoiding the dr, or taking online advice over my doctors. I truly wanted opinions from other lap banders who have been in similar situation. And by coming online with my medical problem, I asked my dr if I should follow up a painful stuck episode with liquids for a day (something I would not have thought to ask on my own). Or "Dr, what are your feelings on soda if there's a stuck problem and chest pain?"

or "I didn't realize leg pain was so serious but after reading posts now I better call my doctor."

However, in the end my doctor and I make decisions for my health, not an online community. I just find comfort in reading others experiences and it does not stop me from posting about it.

In my post I wrote "I am seeing my doctor tomorrow and will discuss this" some replies were "check with your doctor"

I understand some people post wasting time when they should be on the way to ER, but there are some medical posts asking opinions and I'm sure many of those people are also asking their surgeons. It's not ask online or ask the doctor. Often it's ask the doctor and trust their opinion but also curious to see what experience lap banders will say.

When you are having chest pain, you should never post this question in the forum of what it might be because while you are typing you could be dead. Some things should just not be posted and medical attention sought immediately not wasting time to come on here. Im not talking about a stuck episode I am talking about real serious medical issues that should never be posted in a public forum. Seek medical attention then post about the outcome.

Of course people should see their Dr but don't forget that with mobile devices these days, people could be posting while on their way to their Dr or we.
