So, I used to have really thick wavy/curly hair but since the surgery I have noticed that it is thinning out a lot and I "shed" something fierce. I have started taking my vitamin B pills since it is low and that has helped a little but it still isnt anything like it used to be. I have read a gagillion different articles online but I figured that who better to ask then others who have most likely been in this situation!!!

So PLEASE let me know what yall have been through and anything yall have done or tried!!!!!

Thanks everyone :)

I had hairloss before this surgery and it stopped. Its back now, i know it has nothing to do with the band or the diet and nothing else i been through every test there is ...its more likley from surgery ...i had a endoscopy done in August and my hair loss started 4 months after that, i finally got it to stop taking Biotin and something the dermotoligist precribed (a solution i put in my shampoo) ...and here i go a month after surgery and im shedding again..grrrr..... but it will stop again i keep telling myself its just hair.... it will grow back !! I went from a head full.. to very very thin hair, so thin i cant even put it in a ponytail nomore....but if all fails i will just have to buy a wig ....

It will grow back, some lose hair afte the surgery due to the rapid weight loss, you see this more with the other WLS but it does happen with LB. When mine started I took bioton and it is now thick again.

Make sure you are getting your protein every day. My doc recommends 60 to 90 grams and when my hair was shedding, he said to try to keep it closer to 90 every day. Add biotin and zinc to your vitamins. If it gets bad, try Nioxin shampoo and conditioner.

It is temporary. It will come back.

I'm taking biotin, lots of protein, and my multi. Hopefully, it will help as I really don't want to suffer from hair loss. One thing I wanted to point out is whenever you are put under, or put on different meds, you will see a difference in your hair and nails. I see it all the time with clients and sometimes it takes months to show up so people don't' make the connection with their surgery or illness.

Have to say, I'm a little concerned about being a hair stylist with no hair.

good luck,

j~

My hair stylist told me to start Nioxin shampoo and conditioner as well as a hair and nail vitamin (she gave me a month bottle of GROH from Visible Changes that is suppose to work wonders). I have not had my surgery but I plan to start all of this hair treatments the week I have the proceedure to offset any loss. I may switch to biotin once the 30 day bottle of GROH is gone due to cost. I have heard alot on this site about biotin.

I have been taking Folic Acid. My hair has stopped falling out and is even growing back! It has taken about a couple of months to notice a difference but I am pleased.

I know what you mean - I have thick curly hair also - love love love my hair - I have not had the lap band surgery as of yet - waiting for approval..........

They gave me a bottle of Biotin but I have yet to use it. They say it works but then you get facial hair and me being Italian - I don't wish to attempt it - any thoughts about he product out there?
