Mourning Food

Wow, it has been 4 days since my surgery and I'm doing okay. One thing I was not prepared for is that I feel like I am in mourning over food. The night after my surgery, the woman next to me got enchiladas. I wasn't hungry but the smell stimulated my saliva glands. It sucked. The first few days I felt like I was starving to death, don't feel like that now. I still have alot of pain as I had a hietal hernia repair. The doc said my hernia was the size of a large orange. That would explain all the pain. I can't believe I have finally gotten past this milestone. Now if only time would speed up and magically I would be thin...lol

I felt the same way. Honestly, it then hit me that I had a food addiction. I mean I knew I did before but I was miserable because I was still on the liquid phase and I couldn't have anything. The first two weeks of having the lap band was the worst for me.

Good luck on your journey. It feels great to lose weight... it not only makes you look better, but makes you feel great! I feel much healthier, and I love that I don't just "stuff" myself with food anymore. I now eat slower and enjoy my small amount of food.

The first two weeks are very hard and it will get easier after that. That sounds like a hard situation to be in! I remember my husband wouldn't even eat a single thing around me for the first two weeks so he wouldn't make me feel bad or tempt me.

Don't let that get you down...it will get easier. You will learn so many things about yourself and you will accomplish so many things that you wouldn't believe were possible before. You will still enjoy food. I am 1.5 years out and am at a point where I can enjoy just about anything I want just in smaller portions. There are certain foods I still have to avoid but being under goal feels so much better than the temporary satisfaction of a little food. Your mind is stronger than your want of food. You can do this. Reach out for support. Do what you have to do but don't cheat. You can cheat the band and lose weight slowly or you can do this the right way. We're here for support. When you see that weight coming off, it's a huge motivator. YOU CAN DO IT!
