Gym=No Weight Loss

Since November 11th, I have been losing about 4 pounds a week on average. A week ago, I joined the gym. I have gone a total of 6 times since then. This is the first week I have not lost ANYTHING since surgery. It really makes me upset. I thought starting to work out would help with my weight loss but it seems to be doing the exact opposite. Are there any medical reasons for this? Am I gaining muscle maybe? Retaining water? As you will see in my previous post, I have been eating more on gym days because I felt like I needed the extra calories because I would be burning calories. But maybe that's not the right thing to do. I have not once gone over my calorie limit either. I'm taking off from the gym tomorrow. I'm hoping when I weigh myself on Monday, I will have beat this little plateu. If I haven't, I'm going to have to do something. Sooo frustrating! I feel like I'm busting my butt at the gym for nothing :(

Calories IN Calories OUT. You don't need to eat more in order to work out. I was a competitive athlete from childhood through college. You are probably toning or building muscle, which is good, but you won't see the scale move. In order to generate the fat lose, cardio is the key - getting your heart rate up to the optimum level and keeping it there to burn fat. Ask someone at the gym what your heart rate should be. Keep up the great work!

They say that muscle weighs more than fat. As you start to build muscle you will gain a little or not lose anything until your body gets used the exercise then the musle will help you burn fat. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water so that you don't get dehydrated or start to retain water.

You are not busting your butt for nothing, you will love the results just be patient. Keep up the hard work!!!

I tell people to stay away from scales. Especially if you are weight training. Like Jenn said muscles weigh more than fat. So they scale may stay the same or creep up. Pay attention to how your clothes fit, how you feel, and how you look. Only hop on to the scale when you go to the doctor.

But my doctor expects to see an average of 8 to 10 lbs lost a month. I have been doing circuit training and water aerobics and I am losing inches but disheartening when not showing on the scale. I am almost 10 weeks post-op and have lost 24 lbs only. However people say I have lost weight and noticible. I know in a month I lost 6 inches in my waist alone. But still would like to see the scale go down a little more.
