Still going...slowly

Hey everyone.

Well I've been banded for a little over a year and I guess the discouragement is starting to hit me. I thought in a year I would lose over 100 lbs just like a lot of the stories I read on this site, but...I haven't. I realized from my surgeon and doctor that the weight comes off slowly but I guess after I hit a plateau that I couldn't conquer for months and months, it's hard to keep going on the right track. I have realized recently that I am having major acid reflux and heartburn that is most likely signaling that my band is too tight. I am very nervous about having fluid taken out just because of the fact that I haven't lost any weight in a while. I don't want the fluid being taken out to end up making me gain back any weight that I have lost. I guess I'm just looking for some encouragement to know that not everyone loses 100 lbs the first year...or is it just me? I have started back on my healthy diet and exercising regiment again so hopefully that will kick start everything for me. I wish you all the best of luck and thanks for reading this!

It has been just over a year for me and I have only lost 50 lbs. Believe me, I am very happy with that but I too thought I would have lost more by now. So I am learning to be patient and keep going and hopefully I will drop at least another 30 lbs this year if I am lucky.

Don't get discouraged. This is a journey that takes time. I am looking at mine as a lifetime journey. I know I will have days that are better than others. I suggest keeping a journal. It really helps to see what you are doing and to really reflect on where you can make changes. I have hit a lot of plateaus recently. I know it is because I am not getting in the exercise that I did in the summer and early fall. I know that this has to change to help me get over this bump in the road.

I also suggest that you come to this site for support. It really helps to keep you focused. Good luck as you continue!

i know what you mean... it has been 16 months witht he band andi have lost about 50lbs... but in the last 4 months the scale has not gone down. I have had 7 fill and i have 9CC in a 12CC band and i dont really have much restriction. Ofcourse unless i eat a big piece of meat, or get to hungry and take a huge bite.

Anyways, dont get down on yourself. This is what i tell myself " it took me 10 years to gain 100 lbs, it is OK if it takes me 2-3 years to loose it""

I do know my family and friends were expecting a new me by now...but none of them have been obese...so they "dont know"

My new goal for this year is to loose 20- 30lbs by sept...but first i know i have to get back to the gym and stop gracing food all day.

Best of luck!!!

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.
    • I'm literally almost crying reading this. Mostly because I'mon this pre-op diet and these last two days have been difficult... but also because I needed this! Thank you! Congrats! And a BIG congrats on quitting smoking a second time! It was hard enough to do it once... So - when I say BIG congrats... I mean BIIIIIG congrats! ❤️
