Acid Reflux!

OMG....here lately I've had the worse "acid taste" in the back of my throat....and it's even woken me up at night and I'll have to get up, eat a few tums and go back to bed. Right now I'm having a really bad fit with it. Is anyone esle suffering? What are you taking or doing that helps?

I've had acid reflux on and off and there are few things that really trigger it. Alcoholic beverages definitely make a difference, as do sodas and coffee and acidic foods like tomato sauce. I also got very bad reflux when I had post nasal drip from a sinus infection. You should try to find out the root of the acid and in the meantime, there's a few things you can do to make it better. I was put on Prilosec 2x per day and that managed it well. Also monitor what you are eating/drinking. Don't drink or eat anything within 2 hours of bedtime and if you do, try to sleep with your chest and head a bit elevated. I hope it gets better for you because it can cause longterm damage if left untreated.

I have it for about a week after each fill. Like Barbara mentioned, eating before bed makes it a lot worse. I always make sure that I finish eating 2 hours before I go to bed. If you continue to have it, make sure you talk to your doc! Good luck!

Sometimes two hours before bed isn't enough. I had reflux for 20 years before surgery. They fixed my hiatal hernia and I was acid free for nearly 2 months. This last time I didn't get a fill and a few days after I started getting reflux again. I can say anything acidic, tomato based, fried, heavy, carbonated can all cause problems. Not eating can cause reflux too. I slept on 3-4 pillows every night for some 20 years too. That helps. Over the counter reflux meds may help too. Check with your doc like they said. You may need something different.
