I am so pissed! I finally went in today for my initial visit and the doctors told me that I don't weigh enough! I am so sick of this! I really need to have my surgery before July so that I won't have to pay a deductible of $600! I know this sounds stupid, but is it possible to gain 30lbs in about a week or two weeks at the most? The doctors kept saying that they weren't telling me to go out and gain weight and that if I still wanted to have the surgery in the future to come back if my weight changes. He also said that if my weight was where it needed to be today that they could have had me schedule for surgery in the next couple of weeks! I just wonder, just how much weight can I gain in one week. My BMI is at 35, he said that it needed to be at 40. I don't really understand how they calculate BMI, but this is so depressing! What can I do guys to gain about 30lbs in the next week or so? Or should I just give up on trying to have this surgery submitted to my insurance company by July?

Please don't be silly about this. The lap band is not worth gaining 30 lbs MORE weight for. How much do you weigh? There are some of us that truly needed the surgery. From your picture you don't look that over weight. If you go to the gym and honestly watch what you eat - you will be fine with out the band. B/c to be honest - YOu have to watch what you eat and exercise even if you get the surgery done.

It isn't an "easy fix" surgery. It's suppose to assist you into changing your eating habbits. And teach you how much food you really need in order to live! Please reconsider your situation. If I was your size - I would work my ass off just the same as I do now - With out the band.

"please don't be silly" I am deciding to seriously look past that comment.... but I will say to you that just because I'm not as overweight as you or the next person, doesn't mean that my problem isn't real to ME. Now, I have struggled with my weight since 1996 and believe me when I say, I know what it takes to lose weight. Why would you even say to me that this is not and easy fix? What did I say in my post that made you think that I may believe that this is an easy fix? I am a 37 year old woman, I know the risk of surgeries. I read about the risks and benefits just as you did, so I know that this procedure is meant to be use as a tool and that is how I intend to use it. I don't have a problem with losing weight, I have a problem with keeping it off; so I say that to say this, Like so many people on here, including yourself, I have a weakness when it comes to doing what's right when it comes to food. I like so many people on here, including yourself, am trying to get this problem under control. I feel that if you are on this site whether you are actually going through with the surgery or not, feel some urgency or is desperate to receive help. Sweetie, I'm not being silly, I am trying to have a little peace and happiness in my life after going through so much in my world. It's time to take care of me for once and that's what I intend to do. Keep working your ass off. We are all cheering you on and I am going to keep trying to have this surgery so that I can get MY situation to the point where I can handle it. Thanks for you response and take care.

Drink drink drink!!! Every 2 cups of water is a lb. So the day you go back drink tons and tons of water and wear cargo pants with tons of pockets. In each pocket put a fishing weight. They are small and wont be noticed. Also you can put the fishing weights in your bra!!! Its worth a try...Im with you, I never had self control and needed this surgery to succeed. You will do great! Try and scam the system it will be a lot safer then force gaining that much weight. Keep us posted and GOOD LUCK!!!

I was only at 35 as well but I found a private guy in Belgium who would do it if you're BMI is as low as 30. As long as I was healthy and could pay, he couldn't care less. I was banded 8 days ago and am still waiting to see how it goes.

Good luck with it!

Thanks for the response guys, I'm just wondering, how soon should I go back. I know what I'm going to do to appear that I've gain the weight, but I don't want them to look at me and say there is no way you've gained 20lbs in x amount of days! lol! I thought I needed to gain 30lbs, but I think 20 will do it. I'm ready to go back! I just want to get this show on the road. I will owe a $600 ded. if I do it after this month! MAN! Why did I wait so long to start this process!!!!!!!

He is probably saying you need 40 BMI for your insurance company to pay, I was self pay at 35 BMI. By the way there are BMI calculators on the internet, just enter your height and weight and it will tell you what your BMI is and then enter random weights until it says 40 and that is how much you need to weigh to qualify.
