Still Struggling

Still Struggling:crying:

Well… I just seem not to be able to stick to this whole new eating agenda. My story- banded on 11-17 and suppose to be eating soups and mushy foods. Yesterday I was starving, I had mash potatoes and 2 hours later had some Mac and cheese. I can say I am only eating when I am hungry- which is a huge milestone for me. But I still have a major problem sticking to just shakes and soups. I am no succeeding. In fact I have only lost 5-6 pounds since the band. I am starting to think this was not a good idea. I pray to God everyday that he help me control my hunger and give me the will to overcome temptation. But so far I have failed. Is there anyone out there who started off “rocky” like me but ended with a victory? I would love to hear from all of you.

I went through that as well, but its something new. Be strong. Just look forward to your fill. That will really help. I have a protein shake when I am feeling hungry. Have you tried that?

I have tried the protein shakes but have not been consistant. I use slim fast mostly. I am looking forward to the fill, but also want my doc to be proud of me for sticking to the plan,. Did you do better after your fill?

You haven't failed at anything! Many gain weight during this period and your doc shouldn't be expecting you to lose weight during this period (I lost a little, but only because I did it). This period is for healing...it can take six weeks for the internal stitches to heal. You need a better protein shake (slimfast doesn't have enough protein). I bought a flavored protein powder at GNC and added milk and fruit. The more protein you get the better. Thei period 'Bandster Hell' is tough, but it won't last forever...with restriction, soon you won't be hungry and you'll be dancing the LB jig and all this will be a distant memory. Hang in there! -BG

Hi. I too was banded on the 17th and I am in the same situation as you are. I am eating anything I want. I havn't been on mushy foods in a while. Not losing any weight. I go for a fill on the 23rd and I can't wait. I sure hope it helps. Keep praying and we will both get there.

yeah i dunno what kinda diet your doct put you on but i got mine on 10-21 and within a week and a half of post op i was eating egg salad, chicken salad, fish, chicken, turkey...i mean don't go for the overcooked t bone steak but def. softer higher protein foods are good...a trick too with the mashed potatoes get unflavored protein and put that in the potatoes...it gives you more protein b/c the more protein you have the less likely you will be hungry. also remember that just b/c your not dropping a bunch of weight means it wasn't worht it....it will take time and the fact that you can see a change in your eating patterns is a huge success! keep up the good work! your doing great!

I was banded on November 6 and it took alot of getting use to. I agree with someone else that the slim fast may not be the best thing for you. I bought the best protein shake from Costco it has 30g of protein and 1g of sugar and in between when if I had a craving I would drink crystal light or have a cup of sugar free jello also the campbells cream of chicken soups keep the cravings at bay a little bit. I know it's hard but I think if you are constantly sipping on something you will be alright. Just remember to take it one day at a time. I go back for my first fill on the 10th of December and I'm still doing 2 protein shakes a day and a small balance dinner. Remember you are not alone it helps to have people who encourage you.....Keep your head up!

Hang in there, remember this is a life change and it will take time.I am only 3 days post op and today was hard not to want something"real" to eat but I have to think about what I am trying to do and to stay in control.Add more protein, don't use Slimfast(too much sugar) and think of the good things to come!
