Are the fills painful? How long do they take? Im not a needle person. Cant imagine how I am going to be able to get the fills without extreme anxiety attacks!

There is absolutely nothing painful about the fill. He said there would be a little prick from the anesthetic, but I hardly felt a thing.

I purposely did not look at the needle. I have heard that they are very long, and I didn't want to see it.

Dr. Davtyan put in some saline, and then had me drink water until I felt uncomfortable. Then, he takes a little out. I am on a liquid diet for 2 weeks. It's great, I don't feel hungry at all.

Oh, and I was very anxious!!! My internist was there too because he is learning to do adjustments. Both Dr. Davytan (the surgeon) and Dr. Cohen (the internist) have the lapband, which is great. Dr. Cohen was holding my hand and reassuring me that there was nothing to worry about, and he was right. Piece of cake. Glad to have the first one out of the way. Now I know not to worry.

Good to hear the fills are not too bad. Still think I might need some type of anxiety pill for that day. LOL. When I get needles I shake, cry, sweat, or almost vomit. I think I am most worried about the fills. The three things I fear the most are needles, height and spiders. If I dont get the fills will I feel any restrictions? I read some people do and some people dont. Do they not fill the band the day of the surgery? Just wondering, when you do feel full do you get stomach noises like you are still hungry. They told me in class the fullness is in a differant area. Was told our stomachs would be making lots of noises like we were hungry but we might not be. Have you experienced this? Sorry about the questions, but during my classes most of the group were going to have the gastric bypass so they did not go into detail about the lapband.

No, they don't fill the band when you have the surgery. Usually people get a fill around 6 weeks. For me, it was 3 months.

If you don't plan on having the fills, the band is not for you. What makes the band so wonderful is that it can be adjusted. As you lose weight, the band will need to be filled to make you feel full. It is different for everyone, too. With proper restriction your appetite will be small, and you will be satisfied with small meals.

My stomach doesn't really make a lot of noise. I do burp a lot if I eat too fast.

I have loved the band, and I am sooooo glad I did it.

Like I said, I never looked at the needle.
