Struggling, Confused, need Help

I had my surgery July 16, lost 38 lbs so far. Will have my first till Sept 4th, this Friday. I have read a variety of calories people should be having but they are all different.

  1. How do you figure out how many calories? I have a 54 BMI
  2. I know we need 60 proteins daily but can you get too much?

I found this great software program to add to my palm pilot to help me track everything.

http://www.calorieking.com/software/ckmobplus.php

It tracks calories, proteins, carbs, fats and exercising and has over 10,000 listing of foods on it. It has come in very helpful. But it says I should be getting 2400 calories, that sounds insanely too high but again I am HUGE right now.

Can anyone give me advice on how many calories and what is the max on protein?

I'm also nervous about my first fill. Any advice on what I should eat/drink afterwards and how long this first fill will keep me restricted?

Nervous, I'm just plain nervous!!

Help, anyone.

I use a site called myfitnesspal.com

There you can figure out from your current weight and hight what the suggested calorie intake should be. Give it a try.

I also us it for my food diary.

As for your fill. Eat before you go and maybe bring yogurt for later if you are not going home right away. My doc requests that we drink some water and site for a bit before we go home.

You may do muchies for a few days after the fill.

Right now you should also make out a list of questions for the doctor to answer. Ask him about the protein intake?

Don't be nervous, it will be okay. When they do my fills, they have a problem find the port. It hurts a little bit (like a pinch) but that's all.

Keep us posted on your results. Also if you want, go to the chat line, there is usually someone there that can answer your questions too.

Good luck!

I can't give you any advice on fills because I'm a little over 3 weeks post op and haven't had one yet. However, I was told to shoot for 110 grams of protein although I know the dietician said I need more because I'm younger (25). I actually sometimes get more and asked my dietician if that was okay. She said yes, as long as I don't have kidney problems. She recommended 1200-1400 calories and 30-40 grams of fat each day and I believe that is pretty standard.

Each practice is different - my surgeon requires that banded patients have only LIQUIDS for the day of the fill and the next two days followed by THREE DAYS of PUREED foods, before progressing to solid foods on day 6 after each fill.

Check with your doc to find out that HE/SHE prefers.

PS...I tried to be a smart alec and ate a meal of regular food a day or two after my fill, and it got stuck...so I never tried that again!!

I have never had problems eating solids after my fills. My doc requires us to drink water and eat a container of yogurt before we leave the office after a fill. She said to be on liquids that day--but liquids just don't do it for me and I haven't had trouble. DONT BE NERVOUS!! Getting yourself into what they call the 'green zone' is our goal!! Good luck.

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.
