How much have you lost?

Okay, I had my first fill today. I only got 4cc’s and I had not lost any weight in the last two weeks. The nurse, who is a banded patient herself, told me not to get discouraged. This happens to a lot of people, it’s only the fill. Though it made me feel a bit better, I’m still a little worried. I should have lost more.

Then there are those close friends and family members who always ask, “How much have you lost already?” OMG, this has become the most hated question in the past three weeks. Dang, this should be a joyous time, but it makes me feel bad because I have not lost much. It makes me want to just lie and tell them that I’ve lost 15 or 20 pounds.

Now since I’ve gotten the fill and 4cc’s is not enough to really provide much restriction, I’m a little on edge because I’m thinking that I’m going to have pay close attention to how much I eat. I can’t wait until September when I get my next fill.

If you really want to loose you will need to pay close attention to what and how much you are eating. Make the band work for you. I know people who have made the wrong food choices and have gained pounds and loose way to slow. LB is an amazing tool. What you said bottom

Why wait until September and be on edge for a few more weeks make better choices and get the water in the band will work for you. Play together as a band. Best wishes. imaluckydog

I understand exactly how you feel. I had the surgery in October and have lost about 50 lbs. I have only lost 4 lbs in the past three months. I had another fill (.25cc) last month, but don't feel much of a restriction change. I'm going back in September to get more.

Imaluckydog is right about working with the band. Although I cannot eat certain foods at all anymore (french fries being the major one), I have to focus on the amount of protein I intake and the amount of sugar I don't. Even with that focus, I have plateaued. The doctor tells me that it is normal and that I will get past it. He told me to set my sights on two years for my overall goal of 100 lbs. If I think about it that way, I'm halfway there (10 months later).

One more thought...I joined my-clorie-counter.com for a few months after the surgery in order to track everything that went in my mouth. It helped me to see exactly what I should stay away from to not sabatoge myself. I still struggle with the sugar thing, but at least I understand exactly how many calories is in what.

I was told by my nurse this week that the average LB patient loses 50lbs in a years time. That's a lot of weight! Slow is better, so be patient with yourself and ignore the questions. Just tell them you don't weight except for doctor appointments or something to keep them off you. It's all about you anyway....not them.

I have lost 50lbs in 12 weeks. With that being said I work my patootie off. I exercise 5 days a week. Belly Dance, Water Aerobics, Treadmill, Eliptical...(need to add weights now). AND....I only eat what is on my list my doctor's office gave me. I do not stray. I have not added bread, pasta or rice to my diet and if I can walk to a destination, I walk.

Remember.....everyone is different with the LB and you may be slow out the gate but you will pick up speed.

I wish you much joy and love. It's a journey.
