My name is Shawn and I've been battling the bulge for the last 11 years with little success.  In 1989 I was involved in a serious car accident.  I was thrown from the car and broke my leg, pelvis and shattered my hip socket.  I was in traction for 3 months and then continued rehab for almost 1 year.  I didn't suffer any further pain until I got pregnant with my daughter.  The extra weight severely impacted my ability to walk and the delivery almost turned into an emergency C section when the pelvis damage made it difficult to deliver her. After she was born I kept a lot of the weight on and noticed the difficulty walking and the hip socket continued to get worse.  I decided I had to lose the weight and went on Lindora.  I was able to lose almost all of the weight getting down to 140 pounds.  Within the next year I gained all of the weight back plus 30 pounds.  So I went on Lindora again.  I was able to lose 15 pounds this time but as soon as I quit I gained it all back plus another 15 pounds bringing my weight up to 185.I continued to do Lindora for several years, paying thousands of dollars to the company but with now success.  I finally decided that it must be a psychological and I went into an intensive therapy program attending private and group sessions 6 days per week for 2.5 months.  During this time I also saw a nutritionist at the facility who informed me that Lindora was a very bad choice.  Once I was through with therapy I tried to give the healthy life style thing a chance, but I gained more weight.  I then signed back up for Weight Watchers.  But gained and lost the same 5 pounds over and over again.  So I tried Optifast.  I couldn't stick with shakes only and really didn't lose any "permanent" weight anyhow.  So I went to Pasadena and tried The Cookie Diet.  I did this for a month and only lost 6 pounds, which I immediatley gained back when I quit eating the cookies.  So now I am on Jenny Craig and I'm losing about 1/4 pound per week.  From my past experience I'm guessing this will all come back and because of my hip pain I am having a hard time doing anything physical.
I contacted Dr. Liu from California regarding Lap Band Surgery.  He contacted my insurance provider, Blue Shield of California, and was told that they never cover the cost of the Lap Band procedure. I was told that I can pay for it myself and have it done for a cost of $17,500.00.   I am now looking into Dr. Kuri in Mexico who can do the surgery for $7,000.00  I joined the website to hear other peoples stories and get advice.  Especially regarding surgery in Mexico.
