I finally made my mind up that I was not going to live in a shadow any longer. I dealt with being overweight since about 2nd grade but really hit my Junior year of high school. I always have felt like the odd one out and not wanted to do what other people my age were doing because I was so self conscious. I first considered the LapBand in 2008 which was one year after the birth of my daughter. I went back and forth thinking that I could do it on my own. I lost 30 pounds in 2009 but could never break the 200 mark. I then just told myself that I would be this way forever and would never be able to get under 200 even if I tried. My husband has always told me that he loves me for who I am and not what I weigh. But still in the back of my mind I wanted to be smaller for me and for him. I felt that people would look and think "Why would he be with that fat woman." I felt that at every family function that is what was going through his family's minds. He is 170 pound and I was 229.

My boss at work is amazing. He has struggled with his weight himself. I have talked with him several times since 2007 regarding weight and how it makes you feel. He sympathized as he was dealing with the same issue. It was March of 2012 that we sat and talked and I shed a few tears regarding weight. We then agreed that we were both thinking same thing. The Gastric Sleeve. From that day it seemed to move fairly fast. He had his surgery April of 2012. I had mine on 07/18/2012. He was able to have his sooner due to not having to deal with insurance. It was also great having him there to help me through it all.

So having said all of the above I am very pleased that I made the decision to move forward with the surgery. Yes there are days that I am like "What the heck have I done to myself." But when I step on the scale and my clothes are too big, it makes up for all the regret! I work in a medical office and anytime a patient asks my opinion about WLS I am more than happy to support them. In the end that is what helps anyone along the way is support!
