I made it thru and happy

I just got home today. I had surgery on Wed. (Aug. 12, 09). For me it was a breeze. I did have a little pain in my chest that moved to my shoulder. I got out of bed last night and walked the hallways at the hospital and it helped a lot. I am glad that part is over. Im looking forward to my success. To think, I was about to cancel because I was so scared and unsur of myself:thumbup:.

Congratulations and good luck on your journey.

Congratulations and good luck! Sometimes the only way to face a fear is just to face it!

Be sure and follow all your post op diet instructions and you'll be set!

I'm so happy for you. You are gonna do great.

Congratulations! May you have much success in your new journey. I too almost canceled my surgery. For weeks leading up to my surgery I kept questioning myself and my poor husband if I was doing the right thing. Deep down I knew I was doing the right thing, but I still had the little inner fear. Now I'm so glad I went through with the surgery and looking forward to a healthier, happier, and skinnier life with my husband and children.

I had surgey today mine went well also. I'm finding the G2 gatoraid is easy for me to drink. Good Luck!

Good luck, I made it through the surgery a week ago, and at first I made could only take a sip or two for at least three-four days now I can take up to 6oz. at a time. it depends on how much swelling you have during the surgery and that differs per person.

Congratulations lingra I had surgery on August 12th as well, and I'm finally feeling good enough to respond to this site. Day one and two were pretty challenging for me but I did make it through...Thank God. I am still experiencing a lot of gas and some pain, I've been taking my liquid Vicodin faithfully as it really helps me to get back to normal life. I'm not the type of person who sits around a lot but this procedure has made me have to stop and rest. I'm up and about now and I can tell that as each hour goes by I feel better and better. I wish you well on your journey as well as myself. I know that this is was the best decision for me and I would not have changed a thing (outside of the pain..lol). Let's keep in touch.

I didn't consider G2 at that time. Good idea.

I was also banded on yesterday. The procedure went well except he found a hernia and repaired it. I am more sore where the port is than anything else. When I got home I was a little sleepy but all is good. The two days I was on liquids lost 7 pounds.

Well, I'm over being scared. I feeing better by the minute. I have started walking 2 times a day. I have to walk, to help with the gas pains I'm having. I walked about 2 mile this morning and feel great. I can only eat 3 or 4 spoons of broth. But otherwise this went better than I thought.

Bostonlady,

I had surgery yesterday and I'm doing well. Walking is very important after surgery, it helps with the gas pain. My doc also put a patch behind my ear before surgery for nausea. It worked very very well. Don't worry about the surgery you'll do great. I've only lost a pound so far but I know it was the best decision I ever made!

Thanks you Kiaa, my doctor makes us stay over night, I've heard you can't lay flat you need a recliner, is that right? Congrats on your new journey, Sept 22 is right around the corner

I'm not Kiaa but maybe I can give you a helpful tip.

IF you lie flat from the first night, it's going to be easier.

This is because 1. you'll still have good drugs on board and it won't hurt and 2. stretching out early on will keep things from getting stiff, used to being compressed, etc.

I think probably most people are "afraid it WILL hurt" and don't just go for it, then by day 2 or 3 when they try to stretch out it DOES hurt, like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Night 1 (I was at home but you can do this in the hospital too) I slept on my side (the port side actually) with a pillow to kind of help brace me. Actually the pressure is GOOD for you; it can help slow and stop any bleeding etc (like you hold pressure over a cut on your arm, say, to stop the blood flow) I was a LITTLE stiff getting up but used my 4-poster bed to help me pull up (in the hospital you'll have side rails etc). Night 2 I slept on my stomach (which is my norm)

I was fine the next morning. I was a LITTLE sore but it was like too many sit ups sore, not like major surgery sore.

Use a pillow to help brace your abdomen when you sleep, when you sit up, etc. The counter pressure is VERY helpful and keeps the muscles from hurting too much. If given a choice between a pillow and prescription paid meds, I'd say the pillow helped me WAY more.

I did take tylenol every 6 hours when awake. I didn't take the prescription med because I didn't want or need it, but by all means take it if you need it; and timing it to have a dose about 30-45 minutes before bed time will help.

So yes you can sleep in a recliner if you have one and want to. But I didn't WANT to sleep in the recliner; I wanted to rest well and don't do that in a chair. I can't help but think that getting "good" sleep early on helped me recover more quickly too.

Recliner? not a must have unless you just want it.
