Could I Need Counseling

I was banded 9/08. Lost 40 pounds in 4 months. Have stayed the same with maybe a 1 to 2 pound swing either way. I swear I am self-sabatoging. People started saying they could tell I was losing, had to buy new clothes, could bend over easier, etc. You would think that would all be motivators. Not for me! It's like, OMG, I am losing weight, now time to eat cookies. What the heck is wrong with me? I really am beginning to think that somewhere deep in me there is this sick thought process that says I am not worth being a normal weight. It sounds stupid even typing this but it is not a joke to me. Since I have not lost any weight in months, I am finding myself thinking things like "see, not even lapband can help you lose weight" or "why did I even go through all this when it is not going to work for me". A friend suggested that maybe I need to talk to someone, a therapist, psychologist or something. Any opinions? Anyone else experience this?

Ditto on pretty much the entire thread... The surgery doesn't change the way you think, it only changes you physically. If you can afford therapy and are really open to it, do it! It's a luxury and next to the surgery, the best thing I ever did for myself.

I would like to attend a weekly or twice monthly, or monthly support group with lab banders in the area. I used to go to OA, but haven't been in a long time. I think a person to person support group would be really cool.

What do you think about it?

I agree Joan it is nice to know we are not alone {{{{{{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}}}} I love this forum in general, Thanks to everyone.

I just posted a response to the thread, but was really intended for Happyhomecc who lives close to me.

Has anybody else attended any lapbander support groups?

I used to go to OA meetings, and they really did help alot. I haven't been able to afford therapy...

A friend of mine once told me that Dr Krahns group holds meetings ... but other than that I am not sure of anything local aside from local chapters of OA. If you find something let me know... I will do the same. Have you asked your dr office, I would think they would know.

Funny, I'm on hold right now to dr. Krahn's office to make an appointment (when I read your reply). I'll ask when someone gets on the phone with me.

CGail,

any info, if there are meetings are they open to non-patients of his?

I just found out there is a support group June 25th at 6:30 p.m. at St. Bernardine Hospital at the San Jose Room. You might be up and around be that time - I dunno if its open to others I'll find out.
