Ok I know that there is a lot of different things out there on this some doctors say its ok others not at all. So my question is for those of you who ARE banded and have drank carbonated drinks, have you had any trouble? Have you had your band/pouch checked to see if there is any sign of it being damaged/stretched?

Thanks for any help.

Brandy:

I was banded almost a year and a half ago. I have a diet soda a few times a week. Sometimes the bubbles come back up in my throat. So, to avoid that I stir the heck out of a coke with ice before having a sip. Another thing I do is let it go flat in the fridge. I find that banded people are already a bit extra gassy, so I usually stir the carbonation out.

Haven't had any issues with the band, so haven't had a scan to see if band is stretched. My surgeon just said at recent support group that soda won't hurt your band.

Good luck.

Sue

I was banded in August and have little to no restriction and STILL can't drink carbonated beverages. They hurt. Not worth it. I have nothing against alcohol but can tell you if you can't go without beer don't get the band. If you can't do without your regular or diet soda don't get the band. Odds are HIGH that you won't be one of the few who "can" drink carbonated stuff. AND it can stretch your pouch etc. I know it's harsh. Personally I only drank maybe 6 beers a year and I honestly had to think long and hard about giving them up. I will probably always miss them a little but it's not worth it. When I thought "hmm, would I give up beer to never be fat again" it was a no-brainer.

4 months post op as of today, I have had 3 carbonated drinks since I had the band put in. I have heard that it stretches the pouch but I think it will stretch it only if you drink it constantly. I like a few other people, tend to let my carbonated drinks go flat. It takes around around a day and a half to drink a 20 ounce bottle of coke now.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
