Caffeine after LB surgery?

My doc says you can have 2 cups of coffee per day. The reason he gave was stomach irritation and dehydration. For every 8 oz of a caffinated beverage, you need to drink an additional 16 oz of water to keep properly hydrated. I know some people said they drank more than that and he said as long as it doesn't irritate them, just add the water and it's okay.

Hope that helps.

My Dr. said that it was fine to have coffee and tea after surgery, but while I was on the clear liquids stage I could only have it with CoffeeMate/non-dairy creamer. Now that I'm on full liquids I can have it with milk or half & half again (in moderation).

I'm not sure why you couldn't but I know that my doc doesn't want me to have a lot of caffine in one day. I only have a cup in the morning so by his standards I'm ok.

My doctor says I can have 1 cup of coffee per day, but it doesn't count towards my total liquid intake

I've gotten my pre/post op diet (yesterday) and was just reading over it to answer your question. No where does he even mention coffee- all he says is no sweet tea (empty calories). Will write this down as a question! thanks!
