can definitely eat more today

Recommended Posts

okay I'm 9 days post op and this morning woke up and felt like a million bucks! I can't feel my port except at certain angles, my incisions don't hurt, my gas is all gone.`

BUT I realise I can eat more today. I had a 1/2 cup of oatmeal this morning. Then 1 and 1/2 eggs scrambled for lunch. Then a tub of low fat yoghurt. Then a leftover fish and potato cake for tea. And I'm pretty sure I'll manage to have dinner okay too.

I know my Dr said this would happen. He said the band is empty and until my first fill, as I heal my appetite would slowly come back to almost pre-band levels. But I'm so sad that my hunger is returning. I was doing so well, losing quite steadily, and I think that it's all going to level out long before my first fill on the 5th of Sept.

I think it's going to be a struggle to keep all the weight that I lost off before my first fill. Now that's my goal, though ideally I'd like to lose a bit more between now and then. I will still eat well and exercise, and hope that I manage to lose more over the next 3 weeks.

Will be hanging out for the 5th of Sept now.

Lellow...you could always go on a preop diet........:tt2::cool2::tt2: I'm in Day one hell!!! I'm tired, headachy, and want to punch something though I can''t raise my arms (that could be from the concreting though), I thought it would take longer to feel like this

Seriously though, I think you can chose more wisely, check portion sizes, practice refusing your hunger head, sleep lots, do some exercise and if you do put on, don't stress too much because it sure as heck will be coming off in the long term!! I hear it can take 5 or so fills before you reach optimal zone so this is bound to happen again during our journeys I guess...

You're so right Ro. I am not going back to giving in to the head hunger after all these weeks of keeping that dragon at bay.

But one another note, I had a huge fight with DH this evening, and went off to have my dinner petulantly on my own. Was eating and stewing about the arguement, and the next thing I knew I felt overfull. I only had about 3/4 of a cup, so I think I may be stressing about it all for nothing.

I'm still eating well, too, so it's my mind playing with me that just because I'm not on Clear liquids, I'm going to gain weight. It's just not true. I'm still burning more calories than I'm eating.

Your day one hell I SOOOOO get. OMG that first day of the pre-op diet nearly killed me, and I only replaced 2 meals. I can't imagine how anyone copes on 3 meals of Optiyuck only. But you've made it through day one (almost). Two more days of this, and you'll turn a corner and it'll start getting easier.

Holding your hand and supporting you all the way, matey!

You go girl!!!

Hehehe I love a good petulant tantie  And the emotional eating I can get that. I guess next time you have that feeling you fight, maybe put off eating til your headspace is able to concentrate!! But then that could be ammo for making the hubby feel guilty

Just keep telling yourself that Lellow!!

Bring on day three and thanks Lellow!

This morning I also woke up feeling awesome. I went for my walk and I was straving by the time I got home. I am still on full liquids so I am a little limited in the food area. Stay active and watching our protion sizes will help us until we get to our sweet spots.

Roheryn - I am sorry you are in liquid hell. Just keep your chin up - brighter days are ahead.

I have to be the queen of the liguid diet. I was on all liquids 2 weeks before banding, and I am to continue on them 3 weeks post banding before I "graduate" to mushy foods. I am now on day 17 of all liquids, and I don't see too many others who have this restriction. That's okay, I will make it through until August 27 on fluids, then 3 or 4 weeks of mushy foods - that means I won't really be able to CHEW until late September or early October. Some of us just have tougher doctors, I guess.

I worry about the weight gain too once I go to mushies. I am right there with the liquid diet hell. I too was on liquids 2 weeks prior and now 2 weeks after. I am so looking forward to Thursday so I can start mushies. I almost cheated today because I got soooo HUNGRY. I cried a little bit and I was real grumpy today, but now it is over and tomorrow is another day closer to mushies!! Hang in there everyone.

It's funny my Dr wanted me to go onto mushies as soon as I started feeling hungry (about a week after surgery) because he said it would keep me full for longer. And it's true too. So I do empathise with you all who are on liquids still, not chewing anything would be hard to do. Big hugs to you all.

Well I couldn't resist finding out if in fact the extra food was making me gain weight. So I weighed myself today, and I'm down another .8 of a kilo (about 2 pounds) in 3 days. So yes, I'm still definitely losing!

I also put on a t-shirt that I stopped wearing long ago because it was so tight it was almost pornographic. Today it was loose! Very very very happy lady, I am, and definitely feeling more positive about eating well, exercising and working with my band!

:):w00t: That is great Lellow!

My dietician said that you should start mushies about the 3 weeks but if I was getting hungry then I would probably get to start earlier

hi all

the feeling of being normal again is great isnt it lellow? apart from i am woried about this stitch that is still in, my skin seems to be hiding it more by the day. will need to phone the nurse tomorrow and ask what to do about it.

until the nurse has my op notes she was not able to answer about if i had any fill in during surgery, however i am not hungry at all so i guess i do hae some. i no the majority of people on here are hungry but i started mushy liquid stuff yesterday and really struggled am just not hungry at all. it is the strangest feeling, but i am having to force stuff in to me, is that going to hurt my band?

Lellow ~ you are lucky to be on mushies! I have two more weeks of liquid before I get there. I hope I can hang tough and get through it. So far I have not been hungry, but I did notice that food was looking good today!

Head hunger is going to be the toughest to beat! Great to hear you are still losing even with adding 'food' back into your diet. I am a bit concerned about that phase too. I have been dropping pretty steadily and worry when I add food, the needle will start climbing. I know, it is just another phase to work through!

I'm actually finding mushies easier than liquid because as you eat, it makes you feel full for ages, and you don't have head hunger when you're full. But the weight loss isn't as fast as when I was on liquids, but that's okay too. If I'm still losing 1.5 kgs (about 3.5lbs) a week on mushies, that's faster than I've ever lost on any diet in my life, so can't complain about that.

Even when I'm on full solids, my Dr reckons after my first fill, I should still drop about 1kg (2kgs) a week, thereabouts. If that's true, it means I'll be at goal by Christmas! So must keep my eye on the prize, and keep working the band.

It's sad though knowing I won't lose weight as fast as on that first week on liquids. But we can't live on liquids forever, right? So I'm kinda looking forward to the challenge of getting back to eating normal foods, but still losing weight, IYKWIM.

Thanks you everyone for always being so supportive to me, and to each other!

That is still great Lellow and I have heard it said it isn't good to lose more than 1-1.5kgs per week anyway!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
