I am feeling a little bit frustrated. I made the decision to have lap band surgery and finally got a surgery date on March 31st 2008, only to have it cancelled due to a high white blood cell count on my blood test. I had to jump through hoops and hurdles to get an appointment with a hematologist and he cleared me for surgery on Friday so now I can reschedule for a new date. Now my Mom (who has been such a big support) just mentioned that "Oh I heard this thing about Opt-Fast.. maybe it is an option?" This made me so mad. I know of course she would rather me not have surgery if at all possible but I already made the decision to be banded! I'm just feeling alone and now I'm starting to wonder again if I should really go through with it..

Any thoughts?

Ashley,

I know it's hard right now because of the trouble you had with your WBC, but you have gotten over that hurdle and things are looking up again! When you start second guessing if you are making the right decision, just come here and look around. Read some of the success stories, look at the before and after pics. You have so much life ahead of you and every right not to have to live it fighting your weight every step of the way. I have a son not much younger than you, and I really wish I would have had this option when he was young. Both of our lives would have been so different. You aren't just making this decision for yourself, now, you are doing this for your future and everything you want it to be. Keep your chin up and good luck to you!!

My mother is VERY against me having surgery. She bought me a diet book and told me that this was the stupdiest thing I had ever done. Hang in there. You went through a lot of thought before making this decision. I have come into soooooo many people who have had WLS, and the only thing they regret is not doing it sooner.

Thank you both. I'm gonna hang in there and hopefully I will get a new surgery date on Monday.

Totally understand...I lost 23lbs on my pre-op diet and I was really excited, really happy, esp over the holidays - and I got an email from my gramma probably 10 days before....

"Why have surgery, you are losing weight on your own"

I was SO quick to write a message back..."where in the hell do you think I am getting my motivation from...I have help coming"

You know what's best for you - stick with your gut - lol! No pun intended!

MY WBC IS ALWAYS HIGH, DUE TO THE FACT THAT I SMOKE AND HAVE ASTHMA, THEY TRIED TO STOP ME FROM MINE AS WELL , BUT I THEN REMINDED THEM OF THESE THINGS AND THEY AGREED AND WENT AHEAD WITH IT.

OMG! I thought it was just me! Now that I've lost 20 pounds on my pre-op diet, people who were supporting me before are all now saying "Hey, you lost 20 pounds, why are you going ahead with this? You can lose it on your own."

I want to scream "I'VE GOT 170 POUNDS TO LOSE PEOPLE!!! 20 POUNDS IS JUST A DROP IN THE BUCKET!"

Don't these people know I've lost weight time and time again? Of course they do.

I've sort of figured out what the problem is. They don't know exactly what the band will do and I don't know exactly how to explain it to them. Saying "it's a tool" doesn't cut it.

Any suggestions?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
