UHC waiting for approval in Suburbs, NY

Hello Everyone,

My first seminar was last year and I was so going to pay for it but my financial situation did not allow it.

I have a different job now, UHC and they cover pending approval. I meet all the requirements, got a letter from my Dr, bloodwork, EKG, Chest Xray, psych eval and just have to go to the nutritionist.

My surgery is scheduled at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood NJ on 3/19 with Dr.Gritsus (staff and Dr seem to be great and very sincere) Considering the surgery is scheduled it seems they think I should get approved. The staff there knows what they are looking for and sent me for everything before getting approval and they said UHC generally takes 30 days.

I am still nervous about aprroval, hoping for the best! Anyone have experience with UHC?:confused:

hi LosingIt

i have UHC and was approved in a few weeks max. but i had a BMI of over 50, dunno if that made any difference.

best of luck to you and congrats on getting a surgery date!

I had UHC and I got approved with a BMI of 44. They have been very good with taking care of me. All I can say is make sure your doc is in network and always resubmit your claim. They denied almost everything the first time and approved everything the second time around. I think my hospital and surgeon bill was a little over 90 grand and I only had to pay $208. Good luck.

not to scare you, but when i went to my seminar this week they had stat's that said valley hospital had a high complication rate. is it possible to get it done in hackensack? Maybe i heard this wrong--ask Tracey on here she was at the seminar...but i think that wing is closing in valley hospital too sometime soon. that might leave you stranded down the road. again, just look into it..i could be wrong.

I have not heard anything bad, Dr. Gritsus has 3 offices and works out of Chilton and Valley... any solid info you have would help, so I could ask....

I also have UHC and it took them almost 2 weeks. I was amazed how quick it went thru. I am scheduled 3/26 and my pre testing is scheduled 3/5. Good luck on getting the approval. I know you are excited

Just make sure the facility is an approved one. That is what I am going through right now with UHC. I found a doc that was in the Bariatric Center of Excellence, but the facility isn't. Instead I'm going to have to drive to New Orleans! I'm still grateful they cover it, just wish it was a little closer to me.
