Wow it's been along time since I've been on here! Out of the blue lapbandtalk sent me notifactons for the first time in along time today. Anyhow, 4 years after getting this lapband thing I could honestly say I wish I had gone with the gastric bypass! It seems everyday is different. Somedays I can eat somedays I can't. What the hell right? I just wish this thing was consistent!!!!!!! I guess we all just have to hang in there!!!!!

    New & Terrified!!!

HI Maria, First off I understand where your coming from about the family not supporting you. Most my family is overweight and they still never supported me. Just do your research and make your own choices. It has been the best choice I have ever made. Everyday life is so much more enjoyable being in better shape (my opinion). But know that this is NOT a full proof plan! you must make that life style change ie eating right & exercise. I have a hard time still controlling my eating habits every gosh dang day! But the band has/is the a damn good tool and will work for you if you let it. I don't think anyone has told me "I took the easy way out" since I had the operation. I don't know how I would deal with that right now. I have lost a great deal of weight and have been able to keep it off and let me tell you there is nothing easy about it!!!!!!!!! I exercise and eat healthy day in and day out. some people just don't understand. To be honest people like that I choose not to be around. All I think they do is stand in the way of reaching your goals and being you/me down. Anyhow just take it from me, This is only a tool and it still requires a whole lot of hard work and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

    Mount Everest?

So I have been trying to figure if anyone with lapband has ever summited Mount Everest. I have been looking for the past week and I am having no luck. Does anyone know? If someone has who was it? Male/female? Age? Nationality? Any info would be a great help. Thanks Dan

    Mount Everest?

I am not really to worried about the altitude. I travel for work over seas at least once a month and it has not bothered me yet. I have climbed a few high mountains post band (Fuji, Whitney, Rainer) all under 15,00ft. I mostly am trying to figure this out so for sponsorships. I have been training for almost 2 years now and my goal is to attempt to summit spring of 2011. The only problem is the 100,000 dollars that I am going to need for the climb. From my research it’s best to be the first at something in order to get the big sponsors. Right now the only real thing I have to work with is the fact that I am a lapband patient. Thank you for all the replys.

HI everyone! I am just stopping by to say hello. Not really a whole lot going on with me in terms of Lapband. I don’t know about you guys but mine is very inconsistent. Sometimes it works great and other times I don’t even know it in there. I have days when I can’t hold down water and other days I could eat an entire plate of shrimp pasta (just an example). Well hope all is doing well!

Hello everyone! I am just dropping in to say hi. I am still in Thailand but am planning on stay in the states for the holidays. I have been doing well with my weight. I know I have put some on but I really do think its ok. I defiantly get better complements from my friends and family then when I was down to 177lbs. Anyhow I am on the same page as a lot of you guys with the sweet problem. I eat them because they go down well. I don’t know how you all feel but when I eat regular food and I get restriction it’s not like I am full! It’s more like being hungry but not being able to eat. I am almost a year and a half out and doing just fine but I have to say if I had to do it over again I would without even thinking twice have the Gastric Bypass! Not because I hear it’s easier but because I heard you get more of a full feeling instead of a feeling of being hungry but not being able to eat without barffing! Suzz: Did you ever try that Ail stuff to help with you sweet problem? If so how did it work for you? Are you still planning on moving to TX? Have you heard from steph? Isub: I am glad you got to go Diving. I am also a diver but I have only been once since my weight loss. When you do come to Thailand and you want to check out some cool diving you should go to the Island of Koh Tao! I have not dived there but have dived at a nearby island and it was really cool! Are you going planning on going to Laos? I went there for the first time a few days ago and it’s really kicked back. I went to the town of Luage Perbang and it was full of hippie backpackers and peaceful locals. And it made for a really good mix of people. it’s cool way to spend a few days.

    Is this thing broken?

OK I am not sure if I am freaking out about nothing or what but what do you guys think? I was banded just over a year ago (June 28 2007) I have done well. Still a few up’s and down’s but I am really happy with my results! Last night I was getting a massage and the girl started to press just below my rib cage (guts) right in the center. I felt a really strange feeling and ask her not to do that. About 1min after I felt that strange feeling and I started to get flu like symptoms. (my bones and joints start to act like they were weak, I got super sleepy, I even got a head ache!) The pain was not to to bad so on my walk home I stopped to get something to eat and drink. I had 3 small cocktails, and I ordered some fried rice. Everything went down fine with no problems. During my stay at the restaurant my symptoms increased so I quickly left to go home. By the time I was home (about 5mins) I was sick as a dog. I dropped to my knees and vomited the little bit I had for dinner and I felt better (for about an hour) Then I repeated the same every hour till now. The vomiting stop (because nothing left to come up) but now I just give the worst, most painful dry heave known to man. It does not feel like vomiting because something stuck or band related. It feels more like vomiting used to Pre band. I have not eaten since because of fear but I have been able to take water down. I called my doc and talked to one of the office people (a good friend) and she is going to talk to my doctor about it and order me an upper GI. The problem is I am only home about 2 days a month because of work and my lifestyle (traveling) It looks like the upper GI is going to be sept 22. Has anyone heard of a band slipping of braking due to a physical accident? Does any of this sound like something you’ve heard before. I am keeping my finger crossed hoping it’s the flu! I think this is the first time someone ever hoped for a flu. Anyhow any INFO you guys could give to me would be a big help. Thanks.

Hello everyone! Sorry about not checking in the last few months but I have been really busy the last few months. I quit going on LBT at work because someone on the boat has been looking at all the sites people have been on and I don’t want anyone at work to know about my band. I went to Asia in May and I have only been back to work and move out of my house. I am now residing in Thailand for the most part. I really enjoy it out here and I plan on staying for a least a few more months. I am not really losing any weight but on the other hand I have not gained in along time either. I got within just 2 lbs of my goal in Jan then I gain some weight back. Right not I am right around 185-190lbs which is about 10-15 lbs more than my goal but I also get a lot of better feedback about my looks than I did before the weight gain. I have not really been exercising much the last few months because of an injury I got a few months back. Anyhow I just wanted to say Hi to everyone and sorry but I have not really looked at the past posts because I think it will talk me 3 weeks just to get caught up. Talk to you all later and I hope all is well. Insub: are you planning on visit Asia at all? Capt Dan

It’s been a while since I last posted anything, Our internet on my boat was down for almost 2 weeks so I went like almost a month with out looking and it took me at least a week to read all the posts I missed. But anyhow it sounds like everyone is doing well. I am still having a hard time maintain weight. It seems I go up a few and I go down a few. But It’s really hard to keep it 3-4lbs on either side. This band has a mind of it’s own. Sometimes I could eat a ton of food and other days I have a hard time eating .25 cup of tuna. I now know what your all talking about with the salad. I cant get a bite down with out feeling the pressure in the chest. Another thing that don’t really want to go down well is V8 witch is strange because it’s a liquid. But for the most part I feel pretty well with my last fill. I am going in a few weeks to see my doc just to check in and make sure I am on track. Well anyway I better get going I have a flight to catch in LA. I am going backpacking around south east Asia for a few weeks. I am very excited! I will post some pics when I get back. Happy Mothers Day to all you mothers out there. Capt Dan
  12. I am not getting the band till Aug 9th but I am trying to stock up on all the stuff I will need before hand. The only thing I am having a hard time it the is the protein shake. I have been trying this one called Isopure and I can't drink it because of the really bad taste:eek: I would like to know what you guys have been doing and witch ones are the best overall and the best with the taste. Thank you.

Yeah it sucks about gain weight back, but I actually feel pretty good because of this fill. I am just now feeling any kind of restriction. I have got some stuff stuck in the past but only like 3-4 times since June. That’s really the only time I knew I had WLS. I think this fill is really making a difference. I just started pureed food this morning and I could only handle about ½-3/4 cup of pureed eggs. I go to solid foods on Saturday and I am pretty excited to feel what it’s like to have good restriction. On another note, I did ask that girl out at my appointment and we had lunch that day (13th) and we went to a friend’s party that weekend. I am having a party at my house on Sunday and I pretty sure she is going to come. But to be honest I don’t really see anything to serious happening at this point. She is one of those people that’s fun to be around, but is kind of a big partier and that’s not really what I am looking for. But I think I will just have to go out with her a few more times to really see how she is. When it comes to the ice cream, I can’t buy it. If I do buy some, I have to eat it till it’s gone. That goes for all the sweet stuff anymore. Like I have been saying for sometime now, I eat most the crap foods at work on the boat because I am not in control of what we get. At the grocery I even try to avoid going down any of the isles that have that stuff on them. And if I have to down there to get something else I find my self walking real fast to get out of there.

Well I got another fill today. And let me tell you guys, it was long over due. As I kind of figured I did gain weight, lots of weight. I was kind of bummed out when I found out how much, but today the PA did my fill and said he took care of me and gave me a pretty hefty fill and made me feel much better. He said the doc only puts 1/4 - 1/2 cc in at a time and because I lost a lot weight fast he was going very light with my fills. You see my doc won’t tell us how much he is putting in because he says we start to worry more about the amount of cc and not really what the band is doing. I still don’t know how much I have but the PA told me I got twice the amount that was all ready in there from the other 3 fills. He said I should defiantly feel something now. This is the first time I felt like I had to drink the water slow. I felt the pressure in my chest as the water went down, I only felt the pressure for less than 10 secs so I am not really worried about it being to tight but I defiantly feel I am going to get more out of this fill than any other. I did have some V8 and it went down much slower than the water and I defiantly felt it (pressure) I don’t go back to real food till Friday so I will find out more then how this fill reacts with food (Can’t wait).

    Any Regrets Out Their?

Indio, I just got done registering online. I thank you for getting me that info, it was really easy and only took about 2 mins. Not all my weight loss was after my surgery, I lost just over 60 LBS before hand. I wanted to be as healthy as possible so I could have a fast recovery. I got to my goal a few months ago and I kind of fell off track and put a few lbs back on. I don’t know how much because I only weight my self at my doc’s office. I have a appointment for a fill on the 18th so I will find out how much then. Anyway I am looking forward to attending that support group on the 4/1 and hopefully I will see ya there.

    Where is everyone from????

My name is Dan, I live in the Redlands area just east of San Bernardino CA. I was banded June 28th 2007 by Dr. Krahn. I got to my goal pretty fast and as soon as I got there, I found myself putting so weight back on. I am getting a fill on the 18th of this month and I am hoping it's going to do the trick. Anyhow I just wanted to stop by and say Hello to everyone.

Wow grace you really kicked butt and got it done. I don’t really look at the tickers all that much but everyone was commenting about yours and I had to check it out. Great job! Once I got close to my goal I really fell off track and I am sure I have packed some pounds back on. I don’t know how much because I only weight my self at my doc’s office. I have an appointment on the 18th and I am sure my ticker is going to be moving, just in the wrong direction. From this point on I am going to get back on track and get my ticker looking like Grace's.

Thank you guys for all the breakfast ideas. I like a lot of that stuff I am just trying not to eat many carbs. I did not even think about a the cottage cheese. I was eating CC most mornings but I can't get fat free on the boat so I only eat it at home. The job hunt is going OK. I am still working offshore for the time being but I have an interview for a line-man program in July. I am kind of holding out for that. I do have a few offers back home in CA but only boat jobs. If I don't get the gig in July I will more than likely get a boat job back home. I was thinking the other day. Where the heck did everyone go? Back in June and July there were 10X's as many people as there are today on this thread. I can't help but to check on here every few days. I think the help and support of LBT has really contributed to my weight loss.

I was just wondering what everyone eats for breakfast? In order to get the needed protein it seems like you got to ether eat eggs or a protein shake. I like eggs but I don't like to eat them everyday. The typical breakfast menu stuff like oatmeal, cold cereals and breads all have a bunch of carbs and not all that much protein. I was just kind looking for some other breakfast ideas. good job on all the weight loss people keep up.

    So CAL Bandsters

indio: I am going to try to make it to the lapband only group in April. I work offshore in the Gulf of Mexico so I am out of town every other month. SO i have to plan stuff pretty far in advance. Do you go to most of the lapband only groups?
  25. captain danbo

    So CAL Bandsters

Caligirl: I had my surgery done there in Rancho at Rancho Specialty hospital. The care I was provided was really kind of impressive, everyone there was very friendly and professional. My surgeon was Dr. Douglass Krahn, he works out of Rancho, Parkview in Riverside, and Saint Bernadine in San Bernardino. I have nothing but good things to say about him. He is very professional and it seems he really cares about his patients. The only negative thing I have to say about him is that with the exception of surgery date every other appointment I have has been at least one hour late. When you go to his office you can see why it takes so long because there are always at least 10-15 people waiting to see him. I think he try’s to see to many people in one day. If I had to do it all over again I would still go with Dr. Krahn. I have talked with a few people at support groups at Dr. Billy’s office in Thousand Oaks and people seem to be pretty happy with him also. I think you should attend a few support groups and see what actual patients have to say about different docs and keep on asking people on lapbandtalk. If you want I could give you Dr. Krahns number and address. Just send me a PM and I could get it for you. Good luck.
