I weighed in originally at 341# and started with just protein. Im keeping my calories south of 1200. I started rechecking periodically daily and the weight is fluctuating . Can it be just fluid consumption? I drink a lot of water

First, there is no such thing as a pouch reset. It’s an old wives tale that does the rounds of weight loss circles. What you need to reset is your head. That is your thinking about eating: what you eat, why you eat, how much you eat, when you eat, etc.

Secondly, your weight is always fluctuating. You probably never noticed it before as you likely didn’t weigh yourself as frequently as you are now. You don’t eat & drink the exact same things in the exact sane amounts every day. You may not work out as hard or work out harder one day compared to another. You may pee more frequently or less frequently. You may be constipated or have some diarrhoea. And so on.

In time once you reach maintenance, you may notice you have a natural fluctuation. Mine was a kilogram (2.2lb)so I’d bounce between 48.5 - 49.5. Some find they have a larger fluctuation they bounce around. When in the losing phase, you may find it more helpful, to graph your weight and then focus more on the trend rather then your exact weight. Always remember, weight loss never follows a consistent and regular decrease. It bounces around, goes up and down & plateaus. All is perfectly normal. So if the trend on your graph is downwards you’re golden and don’t worry about the fluctuations.

Also be consistent with your weighing. Same time, clothing, toilet routine, … For example I weigh myself in my underwear, first thing in the morning, before breakfast and after I’ve peed and pooped. I don’t worry too much about the weight on the scale if my routine has varied that day.

Don’t give up based on a number on the scale.

That's quite normal; weight fluctuation isn't limited to fat growth; it can also be caused by water, salt, hormones, or even digestion. Don't freak out over a single weigh-in; instead, stick with your reset and monitor patterns over time. If you remain consistent, you'll probably experience the loss once again.
