August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

  • Popular Post

Got my surgery date for August 15th! 10 day all liquid diet starts on the 5th and I am nervous about it, but mostly excited because it means surgery is right around the corner. Any other August people in here? How are you? What are you doing to prepare for the big day? Look forward to hearing everyone's story :)

Surgery tomorrow feeling super nervous.

Sending lots of support your way! You'll arrive at your surgical center, and everything will start to flow. The surgery is over quickly, and you'll be like me before you know it- 4 days post-op.

Good luck to all of you! And I’m glad to hear that those of you who had the surgery recently are doing OK. Mine is coming up on Tuesday so we’ll see how this goes. Not particularly enjoying the clear liquid diet, I have to say ?

Thank goodness it’s temporary.

I had RNY on 8/7 so just finishing day 2 PO. I will not lie, the first day (day of surgery) was rough, I could not have made it through with out having my parents with me. I’m learning quickly that a support system makes all the difference - physically and mentally. Pain isn’t so bad today, I still feel nauseous/bloated/have gas pains and that’s the worst of it. Everyday gets truly gets better! I was a wreck the morning of surgery but I pushed through and am proud of myself for making a hard choice. I’m anticipating regret hitting me soon again (was majorly regretting on surgery day) but I think the key post op is to just focus on taking really good care of yourself, reaching out for help, walking and sipping. Best of luck!!!!

I agree with having the support system. No way I could have done this without my husband and mother here to help with kids/dogs

Hello Bari Friends, my surgery is on August 18th and currently on a two week medi-meal (optifast) diet. Three shakes a day and 1 or 2 sugar free jello. Surprisingly doing well- no headaches thankfully. Watching mukbangs tend to help me.

Best of luck to everyone :)

Hello all, checking in here from Vermont. I'm 4 days post op (August 10th at Dartmouth Hitchcock) on a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. Happy to report only mild to moderate pain, and not having any problems drinking all of my fluids. If anyone has any questions regarding the first few days/nights, let me know!

Steve

Hello Hewnew,

Taking in water the day of my surgery was the most difficult for me. I couldn't swallow more than a sip every couple minutes, and it was causing gas to build up in my stomach when I did. With VSG surgeries, I read that mixing the water with something helps get it down. I mixed my 24oz bottle of water with about 2 ozs of apple juice and the water went down a lot easier. I would recommend bringing in something you can mix with the water, like crystal light or another 0 calorie mix-in. What also helped me was the motivation to get out of the PACU (there were no beds available in the inpatient unit), and see my wife and daughter at home. The sooner you meet all of your goals at the hospital, the sooner they'll release you.
