August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

  • Popular Post

Got my surgery date for August 15th! 10 day all liquid diet starts on the 5th and I am nervous about it, but mostly excited because it means surgery is right around the corner. Any other August people in here? How are you? What are you doing to prepare for the big day? Look forward to hearing everyone's story :)

Suzi Davis- I stopped loosing about a year in and I am stuck at 200lbs as well. Now I will say that i have not worked out since Dec due to the weather and seasonal depression. The lowest is 195 and then right back up to 200lbs. I just dont get it. I need to do a pouch reset I think. My goal is 180. However, the past 6 months I have had two episodes where I pass out due to dehydration bc I forget to get my water in. Which sucks really bad, because now I have to really watch it.

You may have to reduce your caloric intake more. I’ve run into this problem myself. There have been times when I gained up to 20 pounds. I had to eat less regular foods and more protein shakes and protein in general. I’m not quite back to where I was, but I’m trying.

Good luck!

I’ve lost around 100lbs. I have been gaining and losing the same 4 pounds since last fall, about the same time I hurt my back in the gym. I’m recovered now and need to get back to exercising.

The gastric sleeve has been super helpful because even if I have a cheat meal, it’s very small and almost no weight impact. I’ve always liked protein heavy meals so this has been pretty easy for me. Limiting bread and sugars, and not drinking soda has gotten me most of the way there. I have started to drink a few beers a week…I try to keep it to lite low cal/carb beer.

I haven't been in here in a Hot Minute!

I would love to know how everyone is doing. I stopped losing weight at about month 8 or 9 and have maintained, just didn't get to where I had hoped I would. I kind of regret not doing the bypass to be honest.

Otherwise it's been pretty easy.

I've been at a complete standstill weight loss wise too..for about a month. The same 3 lbs up and down and I haven't reached my goal either at 18 months PO. So I feel your regret even though I had the bypass. They say you can possibly continue to lose for a few years... But I get the feeling my body likes this weight despite what I want! ?

Yes I feel that same. i feel like my body is saying this is it. But i do not have any regrets on having the surgery

Hi all - I think it was perhaps about a year ago that I stopped losing weight and even gained a few pounds. My doctor suggested weight loss medication. That has been helping. I am concerned about when I transition off the meds.

At some point we all plateau in our weight loss. The thing to do is hit the protein shakes more than you used to. Pretend it’s the earlier stage, where you were limited to protein shakes and almost no carbs. I’ve had to do that myself when I gain weight or plateau. It’s not what we want, it’s what we need to do.

Hello everyone, just wanted to post an update about me. I had my Gastric bypass surgery August 16, 2023. My heaviest weight was 260 lbs, documented weight starting the bariatric program was 249lbs and weigh in on day of surgery was 235.6 lbs. I managed to drop down to 176lbs and I stopped losing between the 6-9 month mark fluctuating between 183-186 lbs and now I did a weigh in at 189lbs. I noticed now I am experiencing more digestive issues like everything I eat is causing bloating, indigestion, heart burn, hyperglycemia episodes and feeling lost of coordination some days. I don't have medical insurance to get a thorough check up from surgeon but the only thing I can account for is me not taking my vitamins, not being as active, still snacking and mentally always ready to eat even when I don't want to because I will feel stomach cramps or light headed, How are you all during your journey?

I'm just checking in with all my August 2023 fellow surgery patients! I hope everyone is doing well and has been genuinely happy at 19+ months PO!

I finally conceded that I'm probably not going to get to my "goal" since I've been stuck here for months now. I also like to think that if I were to have skin removal on all the places I need it (stomach, arms legs and butt) it would take me to goal. This puts me at where I was weight wise most of my adult life before I started gaining weight ten years ago.

So, I'm happy with the wls results physically health wise, lol just not looks wise. I knew what to expect...but its still difficult to actually seeing it. Plus all the new aches and pains from past stress on the body and shifting lose joints is .... Great ?

Again, I hope everyone is doing well and has adjusted to their new healthy life!
