Clothing subscription services?

Recommended Posts

So I had to buy smaller clothes recently, but know it’s (hopefully) the first of many size changes to come.

does anyone have experience with clothing rental such as Gwynnie Bee ? Pick out, they mail to you, you wear and mail back to receive another item… might be a way to have more variety while sizes and clothing style changes.

thoughts? Experiences?

I have heard of others who have used them and seemed to be happy with their services. It would be really nice to have at least a couple outfits that you feel good in as you go through the sizes. Once you get down to “normal” or smaller sizes you may reconsider discount stores like Ross, Marshalls, Burlington or TJMaxx because I have found some pretty good deals there as well (some stuff was probably cheaper to buy then it would’ve been to rent). Many people have good luck at thrift stores too. Near me they do not do a very good job organizing the stores. I have found some good deals there, just never on clothes because they are not fun to look through in such disarray but hopefully your stores are better.

I have never even heard of "renting" clothes. Interesting!

What my friend really liked about it is they select items for you and they selected items she never would have tried herself. I believe if you don’t like it at all you can return it right away and they select something else. I think It would be great in our situation, though, going through so many different sizes that we will never wear again.

I have such a strange shaped body I can't imagine this working for me although I love the idea.

I have such a long torso and I am so tall I struggle to find shirts that are long enough. My pants size is way smaller than my shirt size. I have already carried all of my weight in my abdomen so now that is were 90% of my excess skin is so I still need larger shirts. haha. Always something!

I thought about trying like stitch fix or something like that when I hit my goal weight or maintenance (which ever comes first) mainly to try things that I would never consider when shopping for myself. I am such a tshirt and jeans girl that it is SO HARD to even consider anything else. And, when I do I feel like I am dressed up and/or over dressed for just having dinner or whatever.

Yea I have a long torso and I’m a jeans and tee shirt person too I think mostly because it’s just easy. Also, I really don’t really go anywhere to get very dressed up. I suppose I could if my husband would too but he doesn’t so I feel like I look out of place being dressed up more than he is. Supposedly those people are good at finding clothes to fit your body shape though. I’m sure it’s like anything else and depends on luck of the draw with which consultant you get but if you get a good one maybe they will find some things that work really well for you. I guess it Would be good to know what works if you do have an event come up that you need to dress up for.

I've started using Eloquii's service. You actually pick out the clothes you want to rent and they send you a selection of those you picked. I did it mostly because my work clothing situation is sad right now, and I am going in 1x week again and don't want to wear jeans all the time. I also was tired of wearing old things (granted, old things I haven't worn in 17 years) and wanted to feel better about my clothing situation.

I've enjoyed it - I've tried things I would never have bought, and Eloquii also lets you buy stuff you like at a deep discount. Seriously the discount is dangerous because I keep buying the cute skirts and tops because they are hella cheap. Having said that, Eloquii has a trendier profile than Avenue or Lane Bryant, so some of their items might not be things you are willing to wear, depending on comfort level. Having said that, though, I have enjoyed it and it has made me willing to try some new stuff because I am not committed to it permanently.

I totally think it is worth trying one of these services, especially as you venture into new territory where you don't have any sizes in your closet and you want new stuff!

Go to Poshmark.com. You can buy slightly worn clothing for pennies on the dollar for some really good designer names. As a man, I have bought Polo, J Crew, banana Republic, Zegna etc. After I grow out of them I sell them to someone else on the app and buy something new. It is a really good way to have really nice clothing that even if you could not resell them, you pay so little that it is worth it. You can make offers on things to get them for prices you can afford. Many times they accept much lower prices.

Me too! I'll say, I've really liked some of the shirts and have bought a few that are great for work. Same thing with the skirts - they have a neoprene one that they do in lots of colors and patterns, and is able to handle a few sizes, so that's really nice and they look nice on me. One shipment was a total miss, and the latest one is all winners. The others have been a mix. But, it's been fun to try new things and not be committed. Haven't quite figure out my pants sizing yet but this is all about testing things out.

Some of the stuff is way more body positive than I am ready for right now but hopefully working towards that!

Arg, I just found out they are cancelling the service in the next month or so. I am really bummed about that development... 😞

Hey October Surgery friends...how are you doing? I've lost 15 lbs since surgery on 18th.42 lbs overall. Wearing clothes that feel great. Had a bout of cold and stomach flu and still having some nausea off and on after that but getting better, I think.
Seems like I fill up and have minor pain quicker when I eat hot foods rather than cold. Anyone else notice this?
Still sooo glad I did this.

Hi I just saw that you are in Las Vegas too. We are going to the same center. Dr Laduc in same office as Dr Atkinson, is doing my sleeve on Nov. 28th.  I wish you the best!
