May Surgeries - check in!

  • Popular Post

Looking for other May 2021 folks to share the journey with! I'm scheduled for May 5th and start my liquid diet in just a few days. Anyone else on/around the same time? What kind of pre-op diet do you have? I admit I'm super nervous about how I'm going to manage the next couple of weeks and keep up my energy at work.

Had my surgery this morning at 9 am and it’s been a bit challenging with the pain but I’m managing, thankfully no nausea or vomiting at all! I’ve had broth, apple juice and jello so far but at first it was nothing but ice chips. Most importantly I’ve been walking a lot and it really has been helping. Just need some assistance getting in and out of bed.

Congrats on everyone who just had surgery! Wishing you all a nice and easy recovery!!

I, on the other hand, am here on the eve on my surgery and all these MFer's in this house are eating stromboli, buffalo chicken pizza, chicken salad, etc. AND TOM came to visit today which does NOT help!! LOL I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO wanting to scarf down some food. Nothing but Water today and Gatorade Zero!! LOL

Good luck to all of us going in tomorrow!!! See you back here soon!!

I’m tomorrow as well. I just got the call to be there at 9 am!! Like you my boys are going all out for food and it’s so tempting-especially when the nurse was surprised I’m on a liquid diet and said I could eat anything up until 11. Talk about temptation. I won’t do it though! Good luck tomorrow!!

Oh you are lucky! I have had to be on just Clears today (before I didn't do liquids just had to do low cal). I feel so weak and shaky. Guess its good I'm going in practically the middle of the night!

How are you feeling? Hope you are not in too much pain and able to get up and move around.

Feeling a lot better than yesterday. Don't know what I'd do without the pain drugs. Been taking 10 minute walks and resting for a while in between. I'm SO tired, though!

Getting water down is a chore lol the feeling is so weird! Let alone broth and popsicles and stuff [emoji30]

Out of curiosity, I was wondering how much time everyone is taking off from work after surgery. My surgeon suggested a month off so I was approved for that amount of FMLA from my employer and use temp disability and paid time off I have banked up. Honestly I almost wish I had more time off to adjust to the diet and fatigue I’m feeling. I’m tired all the time and feel like a whiner or I’m failing somewhere. I had surgery May 3rd so maybe I’ll feel different when the 1st rolls around. Anyways, just curious what recovery time everyone else is taking!

Hey—I had my surgery May 3rd, too. I am a university professor, so I scheduled mine to coincide with when I am off contract, but I would not have wanted to go back to work this week. At my 2 week post-op appointment, my doctor was concerned with my fatigue and weakness. They sent me to get fluids and vitamins yesterday at the hospital. i was so mad to be readmitted for the day, but honestly, I feel a thousand percent better. I have more energy and can tolerate pureed food now. I say take the whole month, but if you need a boost then talk to your doctor about fluids—it really gave me the boost I needed to just feel “normal” again!

I appreciate your response. I am going to talk to my doctor today. I’ve been doing well with fluids, or so I thought, but maybe I’m missing something somewhere. I’ve definitely decided to take the whole month. Before I had surgery I was like oh I’ll go back in two weeks. Ha! I’ve been doing pretty well so far, just crazy fatigued and weak. I have faith “normal” is somewhere around the corner here soon. I’m definitely going to ask about fluids. Thanks!

It really was not as bad as I anticipated, the first few hours were not too easy but after I was up and walking the gases stared flowing around and it began to get easier. I’m feeling much much better today and I’m on my way home. I was even able to have 3oz of puréed meat today !!! I’m so happy I haven’t felt any nausea at all. How are you doing so far ?

How’s the bowel movement situation fir anyone having a sleaze in the last week or so? I had mine Friday so I’m 5 days out. Gassy and diarrhea bad bad. Is this normal ? I’m on clear full sugar liquids.
