After 2.5 years of fighting my insurance company, I am all set and having my surgery tomorrow at Duke! I'm worried about the post-op diet, feeling like I'm starving to death. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I was banded 5 weeks ago and can assure you, you won't starve. The first few days you are swollen and even fluids can be too much. I just started to feel a little hungry in the last few days but a couple of mouth fulls soon settles that. Obviously everyone has a different experience but I haven't starved to death yet! grin.gif

Good luck with your surgery... keep us posted.

I just wanted to wish you good luck with your surgery. If you go to the monthly support forums, you have a bunch of people getting banded this month that could probably give you more insight since they're right at the same time as you. I'm sure you'll do great! :(

Wow, that took a lot of patience and persistence! Congratulations for seeing it through and good luck tomorrow!

Good luck on your surgery. I agree 100% with Sades, and we were banded the same day. I have lost 13 pounds since surgery day almost 5 weeks ago. Yes, I get hungry, but it's nothing like it used to be, and a few bites and the hunger is gone. Even something to drink quells the hunger. It's really nice..I feel like I will never have to diet again. I pretty much eat what I want (within reason of course) just much less, so I feel like for once in my life I will be eating like a normal person. It's a great feeling. Life no longer focusus around food, it's wonderful.

All the best to you in your surgery. Think positive and all will go well. Don't go into this thinking that something bad will happen. Maintain a positive attitude and think about how great it will be once you lose the weight.

Best of Luck!

You were all right! I did not starve. I'm still having some pain, but I've lost 31 pounds, so I'm really thrilled.

Best to all of you!

31 lbs ... that's fantastic... I assume it's a combined pre & post op weight loss.

No, it's post op only. I think I lost a lot because I started at a higher weight than many folks do. It has slowed down now. I lost 23 of those pounds in the first week, and 2-3 pounds each week since.

What an achievement... I lost really quickly to start as well but it has slowed down now that I no longer have as much restriction. At least I haven't put any on. This is a great tool which will help me finally get the weight off and keep it off.

I'm an idiot. I just noticed today that you were banded earlier in December. I thought you were just going. Looks like you are off to a good start.

Are you feeling positive about your lap band experience?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
