Step 1!

Attended the weight loss seminar last night. Next step is getting a doctor to refer me to the program. Even though I have a PPO insurance, I still need a referral letter. My BMI is right at 40.. The small fear I have is going threw all the steps and then being denied. But I’m going to go full steam ahead and fight for my health! Good luck to everyone in their journey.

When you do see your surgeon for consultation, ask if he/she is requiring you to lose weight because you're right at 40. I would also advise you to speak to your insurance to see if they will deny you if your BMI dips below 40, unless you have 2 or more co-morbidities.

This is one of the questions I asked in the bariatric FB group because my BMI is 44, and if I lose 21 lbs then I'll be below 40. Thankfully my surgeon is NOT requiring me to lose any weight pre-surgery.
