Post-Op Bowel Questions

So I know this isn't a fun topic but immediately after post-op I had lots of bleeding in the stool and had to spend another night in the hospital. Now, in the support group that I am in with other patients from my doctors office, a lady said that she had a bowel obstruction. I wanted to know if anyone else has gone through this, how to avoid this from happening, and if I should be concerned. Obviously the bloody stool caused for concern and that's why I spent another night at the hospital but I ma mainly worried about being at risk for a bowel obstruction.

Hopefully your surgeon or medical care team will be able to advise you about the best products to use to help move the bowel if you get constipated (which likely you will). Some people use smooth move tea or products that contain both a softener and a laxative. Do your best to drink plenty of fluids too.
