Am I doing something wrong?

Recommended Posts

I had my VSG surgery done around 7 to 8 days ago and I transitioned into the full liquids stage.

I had a few questions and I wish you guys can help and give me your feedback

  • About me drinking so much liquids it’s been a lot (I think) just today I was able to drink a lot of miso Soup (ate a couple of Tofus) and Water and also my Protein Shake along with a milkshake of banana and another with berries. Milkshakes are all skimmed and everything I have is sugar free and so on. Am I drinking too much liquids, is that possible?

  • I was able to sleep on my belly yesterday, is that okay?

  • I had the urge to chew certain food and spit it out, I needed to let go of the sensation I was feeling and the urge to chew something. That’s wrong?

  • How do I know if I have a leakage from my sleeve?

I am really scared If I am drinking too much liquids, I don't think that is normal as many people are having issues. Specially in the first phase

I need to know if I'm doing something wrong. If you also have any advice, please share :)

You should actually track what you are consuming. "Alot of miso soup" means what? 8oz, 32 oz?

I didn’t track anything so far honestly as it’s just liquids, the only thing I track is my Protein Shake as it’s 240 ml of Water mix.

The Soup was a takeaway from a Japanese restaurant, I had 2 Soups over the duration of an hour.

I feel like I’m drinking a lot of water/liquids and not feeling full like I haven’t done the sleeve.

When I ate yougurt, I couldn’t finish and felt immediately full, but that’s not the case with liquids

This early you should be tracking ***EVERYTHING*** Including what the calorie count is on those 2 soups... get in the habit of tracking everything now... it'll help you down the road.

You more than likely aren't going to feel full on liquids. Just doesn't typically happen.
And stop comparing yourself to others, your metrics are your own, trying to compare to others isn't going to help you because not everyone is the same, even a pair of twins, having surgery on the same day, by the same doctor aren't going to have the same outcomes. If it doesn't hurt to drink, then don't worry about it. If it doesn't hurt to lay on your stomach, then don't worry about it. Worry about your Protein and Water intake. Worry about your calorie intake. Worry about your exercising.

You don't have any issues it seems other than building those habits that are going to support your new lifestyle.

So, stop worrying about things that aren't gong wrong. Start focusing on changing your habits.

After surgery, you'll easily feel full, and by just going by that, you won't get want you need.

You need to track want you intake. Especially soon after surgery, you'll have to eat and drink, even if you don't feel hungry or thirsty.

You need a minimum 64 oz Water, and you need a 60-80 gr Protein (whatever nutritionist told you) within the calorie limit they gave you. Anything less and you are holding yourself back, or even harming yourself if protein or water is too low

- Liquids are good, but you need to be keeping track of liquids with calories. In the first few weeks, you calories should only be 300-500. For liquids that counted towards my "meals" which I had 6x per day (3-4 oz only), I measured and didn't go beyond that. Even if I was hungry, I didn't drink more. You can have unlimited calorie free liquids.

- If you are comfortable sleeping on your stomach, go for it.

- During my purred phase, I took a bite of something and chewed it up and spit it out in the trash. I wouldn't recommend it, but if he helped you move on in the moment, so be it. You could try crunching on some ice cubes. If you have a Sonic, their ice is prefect for chewing and they sell it by the bag.

- I know shoulder pain is and indication of a leak, but my doctor sent me home with a packet of what to look for. You could probably Google symptoms, but make sure you use a reputable resource like WebMD or mayo Clinic.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
