Does anyone know what the percentage of sleeve patients are that end up going back for gastric bypass surgery? And why does this occur? Is it because they had stretched the new sleeve or other reasons? Thanks guys!

Someone very close to me is 10 years out, has had and kept her success and never had a revision to bypass!

My surgeon said that it is rare and is usually performed if you weren't able to rid yourself of diabetic medication or had bad GERD. In an extreme case, if you weren't able to get lose the weight, but he didn't see the need for it and felt like it is more about underlying psychological conditions were the factor vs the sleeve not doing its job.

I never knew. I just knew it existed and partly because it did, I chose not to be that girl. I knew I only wanted 1 surgery. And if my doc did DS, I may have just gone for the gold right then. But she didn't. So I chose the next GOLD standard--the RNY. I'm a one and done kinda girl.

No regerts.

I'm curious as to why you would have done the DS? I originally wanted that as well but, my surgeon said he would have done it in a 2 step process. 1st the sleeve, and then within a year, DS. I just couldn't imagine going through the whole process twice so I chose RNY as well. Always wondered if I would regret my decision.

Because my primary reason for the surgery was to make sure I max out my 38% reduction in BC recurrence that happens as a result of RNY surgery. And since DS is even more correction, I would have chosen it.

Also, cuz my hyperinsulinemia is so bad from the PCOS that I wanted to max my metabolic correction.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
