Process

I'm trying to figure out the process I just received the authorization letter to see the surgeon. I have IEHP dual choice because I became disabled after a stroke. I am waiting to hear from the surgeons office before I call because my pcp office just faxed the authorization to the surgeon today. Does anyone else have IEHP know what would be next.

Hi, don’t have the same insurance as you, but I’m currently going through the process myself. After my PCP sent the referral my surgeon’s office called to set up my first appointment with them, it was scheduled a month out...it really just depends on what your insurance requires for a approval. Mines requires a 6 month physician supervised diet, sleep apnea test, blood work, psych eval., upper GI Series, cardiac clearance, surgery education class, attending one group meeting, meeting with a nutritionist....I think that’s it lol, but I may have forgotten something, anywho, it just depends on the insurance.

Thank you. I did 3 months of weight watchers and did a sleep study with my neurologist. I guess I will just have to wait to see my surgeon.

Hi! I just wanted to say congrats on starting the process... like WLS said it's different for everyone. I have HealthNet and had to do the 6 months before I even got to see the surgeon. If you have IEHP does that mean you're in Cali?

I met my surgery for an initial consultation and then completed all the insurance requirements and a month before my surgery I met with the surgeon again to ensure that I was ok and to get a more concrete date on the books for surgery. I had the option to have surgery 2 weeks later but opted for a latter date and was sleeved on 12/22.

Good luck on your journey!

If you have IEHP, what surgeon did they send you to? I was sent to Dr Krahn and he require you to attend a WLS seminar before scheduling a consultation with him. You can find the dates on the website, western Bariatrics.
